New York City Kids Weekend Events for December 4-5: Craft fairs, Free Holiday Celebrations, Concerts, Parties and More
We're sure you're going to be busy this weekend, we certainly are. We're hosting our Toy Swap and Drive and are looking forward to meeting many of you. After that I'll be preparing for what's becoming another Holiday tradition here on the site, our Spectacular Holiday Show Ticket Giveaways. Make sure to check the site on Monday so you don't miss out on any of the amazing prizes we have in store.
If your weekend isn't already filled to the brim with shopping and preparing for the holidays, or with holiday traditions like tree lightings and holiday window displays, craft fairs, St. Nicholas Day celebrations, Hanukkah festivals, Nutcrackers and visiting Santa, then perhaps you have a little bit of room for some of these events:

Eat Pie & Shop--Cobble Hill, Brooklyn
This weekend and the coming days are filled with wonderful Holiday Craft Markets and Festivals. PS 29 is hosting one of the craft fairs going on this weekend, and this one seems especially cool. There will unique gifts from local artisans and merchants, a pie competition, and even a selection of indie short films for kids at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, along with free holiday craft making. BeFitNYC Winter Sports Showcase--Prospect Park, Brooklyn
Spend the morning making winter fitness fun with half-priced admission for ice skating, free ice skating clinics, broomball and sled hockey demonstrations, and information about sports leagues in your neighborhood. $2.50/ages 15 and up, $1.50/15 and under
Tribeca Kids Cinema Club Does Buster Keaton--Tribeca, Manhattan
This is the weekend I've been waiting for in the Tribeca Cinemas Kids Club series. Buster Keaton's genius will delight children and adults with his beautiful slapstick comedy in these great silent films. $10, $7 under 14.
Holiday Party--South Street Seaport, Manhattan
Sip on hot chocolate, make crafts for Kwanzaa, Christmas and Chanukah and learn about policing around the world at the New York City Police Museum. Unwrapped, new toys are welcome (but not mandatory) for donation to Toys for Tots. Free with museum admission.

Polygraph Lounge Free Concert—Brooklyn College
Given rave reviews by the NY Times, this fun, interactive and extremely creative Carnegie Hall concert comes to Brooklyn to share its brilliance for free as part of the Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concerts program. Go, if you can snag tickets. FREE
African Drumming & Instrument-Making Workshops--Union Square, Manhattan
This event looks like it is going to be such a good time, especially for the little ones--families and kids can spend the day making musical instruments from recycled household items, and participating in a performance of African drums and percussion. $5/family
Winter Family Day Celebration--Morgan Library, Manhattan
Bring Christmas past to life. Children will learn about Charles Dickens and Jane Austen while having fun. They'll hear a children's story written by Jane Austen when she was twelve, watch a comical Dickens play, and participate in an English country dance, and an art workshop. Free with Museum Admission
Holiday Lighting--Central Park, Manhattan
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center in Central Park is going to be a mini winter wonderland this Sunday. It will be packed with ornament-making, live music, Santa, refreshments, cookie decorating and more. FREE
Hanukkah Festival--Upper East Side, Manhattan
Build your own menorah, make candles, decorate a dreidel, dress up as a Maccabe and make olive at this unique Hanukkah celebration. There will also be an interactive drum session, goodies to munch on, and a jazz ensemble. $15/children, $20/adults. See our full Hanukkah events post.
