Weekday Event Picks for LA Kids: Daytime Stargazing, Nighttime Creatures, Tomorrowland, May 25-29

5/25/15 - By Jacqueline Stansbury

Memorial Day. A final day off before summer unofficially hits and every day feels like a holiday. There is a ton of stuff to do on Monday, from parades and concerts to strawberries and bunnies, but there is nothing quite like a jaunt to the canyon, particularly if you yearn for a 1960s vibe, so I vote for the Topanga Days Country Fair.

Speaking of the '60s, Disney’s latest release, Tomorrowland, is truly an "E" ticket ride. (Angelenos of a certain era will surely know what that means.) Other midweek fun includes stargazing by day in Glendale or by evening in Burbank and Westwood. Read on for our top 5 picks for the week.

1. Topanga Days Country Fair – Monday
Topanga Canyon is one of our city’s greatest locations, precisely because being there is like not being in the city at all. This annual event includes lots of music, a parade, and pie.

2. Nocturnal Animals en Español – Tuesday
Spanish speakers get an opportunity to explore the fauna of Vista Hermosa Park.

3. Yugioh! Trading Card Game Club – Wednesday
The Pacific Palisades library takes this card collecting game seriously and is readying club members for the North America World Championship Qualifier coming up in June.

4. Afternoon with the Stars – Thursday
The doors to the planetarium in Glendale (one of LA's lesser-known places to stargaze) are open for the last free afternoon of the semester.

5. Tomorrowland Friday
The only thing better than Friday night at the El Capitan is Friday night at the El Capitan with George Clooney. Kids will also enjoy the movie.
