This year Easter and Spring Break are hitting a little late, so April is packed with spring fun. Throw in a few April Fools' Day pranks to kick it off, and then even Peeps Day, Passover, and National Unicorn Day — this is a month where you’ll never be searching for activities, things to do, and fun things to celebrate with kids!

Check this list, and you’ll find the perfect thing to do with your kids each and every day. Holidays and Activities for Each Day in April 2025

April 1 – April Fools' Day

From "wormy" apples to different drawers in your drawers, we've rounded up funny and easy pranks to play on your kids on April Fools' Day! We've also got a ton more food-related April Fools' Day tricks to play on your kids at mealtime.

April 2 – National DIY Day

There's nothing quite as satisfying as making something yourself, so set aside some time today to DIY your favorite craft! We have recipes for DIY-ing your own playdough, slime, hair chalk, and more! Check our Crafts and Activities Guide for Kids.

April 3 – Find a Rainbow Day

Perhaps you can find a rainbow in the sky today, but if that's not in the weather cards, we've rounded up 21 Rainbow Crafts for Kids, so you can make a rainbow at home, from growing rainbows to melted crayon rainbows and more.

April 4 – World Rat Day

Rats get a bad rap! But when we started thinking about it, there are a bunch of rats we love. Here are our five favorite rats you can read about or watch to honor World Rat Day!

April 5 – Peeps Day

Sure you can just eat these sugar bombs, but if you're like me, and you can't stand the taste or texture, you can use them for some fun Peeps science experiments.  You can also turn them into part of an actually tasty dessert, like microwave Peeps S'mores or colorful Peeps Blondies.

April 6 – Good Deeds Day

Everyone in the family can do a good deed today, for one another, a friend, a family member, a teacher, or a neighbor. We've created a great list of acts of kindness for kids, which can serve as inspiration.

April 7 – Public Television Day

Some of the best children's TV of all time has come from public TV, so today is a great day to honor it! Curl up together and watch some of the Top PBS Kids Shows That Never Get Old, from Sesame Street to Wild Kratts and beyond. 

April 8 – Kid Yoga Day

Kids feel stress just as much as parents do (sometimes even more intensely), so finding ways to deal with stress is really important. On our list of 100 Stress Relief Activities for Kids, yoga comes in at #1. Get them started with these fun yoga games for kids.

April 9 – National Unicorn Day

Honestly, everyone loves unicorns, so having a day to celebrate them is awesome. April 10 – National Siblings Day

Sure, everyone fights with their siblings, but they're also the only people who will ever be able to complain about their parents with complete understanding! Here are 10 Fun Ways for Kids to Celebrate National Siblings Day.

April 11 – National Pet Day

April 12 – First Night of Passover

Learn all about matzah, as well as how to celebrate Passover (also known as Pesach) as a family and make it fun for kids of all ages in our guide: How to Celebrate Passover as a Family.

April 13 – National Scrabble Day

Fun for beginners and experts alike, Scrabble is a great way to practice spelling and vocabulary. Take your board out of your game closet and have Scrabble be the centerpiece of a family game night. April 14 – Dolphin Day

There's just something about dolphins! Most kids are drawn to them and their playfulness and sleek swimming ability. There's just something magical about seeing a dolphin in the wild. If you can't seek out a dolphin in the ocean today, one really fun (and healthy!) way to celebrate dolphins on dolphin day is making this adorable banana snack for kids.

Simply draw eyes on the banana peel with a marker, cut a slit down the stem end, and stick a grape or blueberry in the slit to keep it open. Check out this tutorial on Crafting Chicks for instructions.

April 15 – National Anime Day

Whether your kids like Pokemon and My Neighbor Totoro or they're into the more grown-up ones like Death Note and Jujutsu Kaisen, chances are your kids are into Anime. On National Anime Day, ask them to share their favorites with you. Not sure where to start? Here are 5 anime movies or TV shows that the whole family can enjoy:

  4. Naruto
  5. Any Studio Ghibli Films! 

April 16 – Wear Pajamas to Work (or School!) Day

One of the hardest things about getting out of the house in the morning is getting dressed. Why not eliminate that hurdle on this Hump Day?

April 17 – National Haiku Day

Haiku is a great introduction to poetry for young kids; it's easy to understand and to try writing. It's also a great teaching moment, as you can explain syllables to kids. The rules of Haiku are simple: 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables. Here are some funny haiku examples to get you started.

April 18 – National Pinata Day

Make easy piñatas at home today with our easy guide: How To Make a Piñata at Home: Easy Paper Bag Piñatas.

April 19 – Record Store Day

We're throwing this in there for all the hipster moms and dads who love their vinyl collections. Take your kids to a local record store to pick out something you can listen to together. There's just something about putting on a record that makes you stop and give the music your full attention, rather than putting it on as background noise.

April 20 – Easter

April 21 – National Tea Day

Cambric, or nursery, tea is a lovely and calming drink to introduce to your kids: it is made of milk, water, sugar, and sometimes a little tea. Then as kids get older, you can add a little more tea. National Tea Day is a good day to learn to make tea together and celebrate with Afternoon Tea, which is a perfect meal for kids as it includes tiny sandwiches, scones, and sweet treats. April 22 – Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! Celebrate our planet with our Earth Kids Guide: Green Activities for the Planet. We have ways to celebrate Earth Day, a guide to recyclables, kid-friendly movies about climate change, how to plant a pollinator garden, and more!

April 23 – Shakespeare Day

My daughter and her youth Shakespeare troop would be very disappointed if I didn't make Shakespeare Day (his birthday!) the celebration for today. If Shakespeare is new to your family, you can introduce it to even the youngest kids. Here are some great ways to bring Shakespeare into your kids' lives.

April 24 – NKOTB Day

This is for the Gen X parents; celebrate New Kids on the Block Day day by blasting Hangin' Tough and having a dance party in your living room.

April 25 – Arbor Day

Arbor Day is a day to celebrate and plant trees, and to recognize the importance of trees to our environment. Plant a tree today, even if it's just an acorn planted in a paper cup in your kitchen! Then read The Lorax as a bedtime book!  “I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.”

April 26 – Eeyore's Birthday

Celebrate everyone's favorite pessimist today. Play pin the tail on the donkey, Pooh sticks (Eeyore is actually pretty good at this game!), and have some lavender-colored foods in honor of Eeyore's favorite food, the thistle! Practice talking like Eeyore, and looking on the dark side of everything! 

April 27 – Morse Code Day

Morse code is a language where letters correlate to dots and dashes. Practice learning a few short words within your family, so you can communicate when you can't talk! Start with S-O-S, which is three dots, three dashes, and three dots. Then branch out to some other short words! You can communicate with sounds, flashlights, or writing on someone's arm or back. Learn Morse Code with this key code.

April 28 – National Superhero Day

Dress up as your favorite superhero, and then have a family movie night watching a movie that features that hero!

April 29 – World Wish Day

Make a wish for World Wish Day, and spend some time talking about what your wish would be and why. Try asking your kids all different kinds of "wish" questions, big and small. Like:

  • What do you wish we could have for dinner every night?
  • What's something you wish we did or didn't do as parents?
  • What do you wish to be when you grow up?
  • What do you wish you never had to do again?
  • What's something you wish I knew about how you feel?

April 30 – National Tie-Dye Day

Tie-dye projects are lots of fun, but they sure can be messy! So try our favorite tie-dye activity: The Least Messy Tie-Dye Project You'll Ever Do. Hint: there's a secret (free) ingredient!
