This Week: NYC Winter Break Day Trips and Camps, Best Family Theater Shows, Focus on Fort Greene Clinton Hill
Even though both Staten Island Chuck and Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring, it sounds like we're going to get enough snow this weekend to go sledding, cross-country skiing down the street and maybe even have a full-fledged snow day. We're doing our best to keep our calendar and posts updated with accurate info, but we predict there will be many cancellations so if you're heading to an event, be sure to check the official website to confirm it's still happening.
If the blizzard inspires you to keep the fun inside, you can try some Valentine's Day-themed crafts, catch a family show or explore a new kid-friendly museum exhibit like Canstruction at the World Financial Center. My daughter went to see it last weekend and she took the photo above of a poodle made entirely from canned food! Our Winter Fun Guide is filled with info on all of these activities and more, so you can make the most of the season, both indoors and out.
If you're trying to figure out what to do during the upcoming four-day winter break, we just did posts on Presidents' Day break camps and NYC day trips. If you're thinking of traveling further afield, our friends across the Hudson just shared their list of the top 100 things to do in New Jersey with kids before they grow up and our Travel site has a roundup of great winter getaway deals and discounts, including an awesome Disney cruise deal.
Here's what else we covered on the NYC site this week:
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
Introduce your kids to old-school video games like Pac-Man and Asteroids at a pair of new museum exhibits and family-friendly arcades.
Want to get out of town over Presidents' Day break? We rounded up six fun-filled day trips all within two hours of NYC.
Out of vacation days? No problem. We found seven sports camps where kids can burn off energy while you work.
Museums aren't the only place to find cool art in NYC. Take a tour of the best underground art in our city's subway.
If theater is more your thing, there are a bunch of awesome sounding family shows this winter, including the new musical Bunnicula, which premieres this weekend.
Our neighborhood of the month is Fort Greene Clinton Hill, Brooklyn and we kicked off our coverage with a list of the top 35 things to do in the area with kids.
Our news roundup has details about a new Brooklyn gym offering parkour classes for kids, a new Williamsburg baby boutique and the lineup for the New York International Children's Film Festival.
If you're looking for a original activity for your next kids' party, try making your own at-home photo booth—it's easier than you might think.
Best bets for the weekend (assuming they aren't canceled due to snow) include the inaugural La MaMa Kids theater workshop and the annual Lunar New Year Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival in Chinatown.
