Located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, The Henry Street Settlement was created in the belief that everyone should have access to the arts and has fulfilled that promise by providing incredible opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to benefit from live performances, exhibitions, and training in a wide range of artistic disciplines. Some of the most adventurous artists of the past century have trained, taught, or performed at Henry Street, including John Cage, Aaron Copland, Dizzy Gillespie, Martha Graham, Alwin Nikolai, Jackson Pollack, Anna Sokolow, and Orson Welles. Classes are one week into the 16 week session and new students will have their fees pro-rated to deduct for the missed class. Some of the classes available include Toddler Art and Play (with adult), Preschool Experimental Art (a perfect example of the unique programs, where kids will create found object installations, murals, write and illustrate books and more), Printmaking or for kids, and the Saturday Visual Arts Academy (An intensive program for adolescents, grades 5-9, who are committed to developing their drawing and painting skills and creating portfolios for special art high schools). To register for any of these classes call 212-598-0400, ext. 209 & 224, from Tuesday-Friday 1pm-7pm and Saturday 10am-6pm. Or visit www.henrystreet.org/registration.
