Free Fun Friday: Water and Art Everywhere

200807250207.jpgLots of cool stuff going on this weekend and you don't have to look any further than our events calendar to find our picks. This weekend we've picked out more events that let NYC kids experience two of New York's most precious natural resources, the water, and the artists, all around us.

Starting with City of Water at Governor's Island, this fun day for kids will have a boat parade, fishing clinics, live music and more.

Seining (a fancy word for catching fish by net) at Brooklyn Bridge Park gives kids an opportunity to see that there really is all kinds of creatures living in the waters right here.

At Socrates Sculpture Garden this week kids can create their own anime stop-motion movie.

Don't miss the second annual Fort Greene Paint Out, a collaborative, community-based art day with mural painting and arts and crafts for all ages.

Need a laugh? Check out Laughter in the Parks, a free outdoor comedy series.  This weekend COmedy's hippest mom performs in Thompkins Square Park.

A new free weekly event for families is beginning this weekend at Moxie Spot in Brooklyn, a Family Disco Party. Groovy.

On Sunday head over to the Brooklyn Urban Arts Market to party and shop from 50 local DIY vendors.

The Solar One Environmental Festival will have its family day with activities and fun stuff for eco-conscious kids.

If you need to stay inside this weekend to get out of the heat, forget about free: Take your kids to the Animation Block Party at BAM where there will be three days of animated films from around the world.
