In Williamsburg Family News... Here's a new Brooklyn kids' shoe store to add to our roundup: the recently opened Wonderwolf, a designer children's footwear boutique that stocks high-end international brands like the ballerina-inspired Anniel, the Australian-based Old Soles and Feiyue’s classically designed kicks. Before you worry the nabe's totally gone to the breeders, it sounds like SummerStarz, East River State Park's annual movie series for families, won't be happening this year.

New Outdoor Attractions Bryant Park has added a five-hole putting green to its ever-growing list of FREE games to play. Come try to get a hole in one or check out some of the other games including scrabble, mancala, dominoes, bananagrams, Chinese checkers, Ping Pong and more. Meanwhile, nonprofit Sing for Hope is bringing back its FREE annual installation of 88 artist-designed pianos from June 1 to 16. As in years past, the instruments will be placed in public spaces throughout the five boroughs for people to play.

Need an LOL? Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz recently announced the eighth annual Brooklyn Lit Match teen writing contest. This year's theme is Brooklyn LOL and high school students in the borough can submit a story, poem, essay, comedy skit or rap about what makes Kings County funny. The finalists will see their work published and the first place winner snags a new laptop. That's nothing to laugh at! Find submission guidelines and other info on the website.

One of NYC's most comical kindie groups, the Dirty Sock Funtime Band, is looking for funny children's artwork about dad. Young fans are encouraged to send original drawings of their dads dressed up like superheros to be used in a special Father's Day video. Hurry: The deadline is Friday, May 31.

Ever read a Kafka novel and think, wow, that would make a great kids' book? Me neither. But apparently Matthue Roth disagrees. His picture book My First Kafka, which has striking black-and-white illustrations by Rohan Daniel Eason, comes out June 15. The thought of it makes us laugh but who knows... maybe you can never be too young to learn about alienation, futility and failure.

New Treats Smush NYC, a dessert delicatessen where you can customize your own ice cream bars, just opened up in Union Square. We tried its Bryant Park popup over the holidays and the sweets are sinful... as well as pricey. But it's worth indulging on a special occasion.

Lip balm and hand sanitizer aren't nearly as tasty as brownies and cookies, but that's what some city kids are selling as school fundraising bake sales go the way of the dinosaur due to childhood obesity concerns.

RIP Kid lit lovers everywhere are bowing their heads at the passing of children's author/illustrator Bernard Waber, best known for creating the Upper East Side-dwelling Lyle the Crocodile. The New York Times has a lovely tribute to the artist and his work.
