So much going on with valentines Day, Presidents Day plus the February Break Vacation Week. I'm dividing the events into separate posts. This one has the best activities just for this weekend. Check out a sword dance festival, a disco dance party, valentines day crafts, movies, a winter festival and more, all free. Click on the links for more information about events and locations.

English Sword Dance Festival
Don't miss the sword dancers who will be performing Saturday and Sunday around the city (mostly in Manhattan on Saturday and mostly in Brooklyn on Sunday.) Check the website for various locations. Most of them are public places and free, some require admission. MOSTLY FREE

Moxie Spot Valentines Day Disco Dance Party

Rand McNally Story Hour with Paper Toys and Valentines Workshop
Saturday, Feb, 14 12-1pm
Esther Smith’s Magic Books and Paper Toys is a playfully DIY approach to book making and paper crafts. Esther offers a special Valentine’s Day paper craft workshop for kids and families, where they will learn to make paper toys from the book that will make great Valentines. Materials will be provided for the basic project, and all ages are welcome. FREE

Propect Park Winter Festival
February 14 - 22, 12 - 4 p.m.
Kids find out what kinds of activities children did a hundred years ago to have fun during the winter months. Make your own games and learn how to play them. FREE. At Lefferts Historic House.

Admission is free. Tickets are distributed on the day of the program only, on a first-come, first-served basis. NOTE: Entrance to films is on 54th street, not the regular museum entrance. Following the film will be a talk and follow-up museum activity suggestions with a museum educator. Enjoy admission to the museum following the film for FREE.

Studio Museum of Harlem Animation Workshop
February 15, 2009; FREE 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm; workshop 2-4pm
Did you know the Studio Museum in Harlem is free every Sunday and offers family programs? This Sunday kids can learn the basic principles of animation while making their own thaumatrope, a simple optical illusion that creates the effect of animation. Cool. FREE
