Big in Japan, Cool in New York is an 11-week celebration of Japanese design and culture. This Saturday they are hosting two kid events: ‘Kamishibai’ Story Telling (ages 3-7) at 1:30 PM and Origami for Children (ages 7 and up ) at 3:30 PM. Saturday, September 27. FREE but RSVP required.
Not sure what they will do with the rain but Saturday is one of the coolest neighborhood events in NYC and worth getting a bit wet for – the 42nd annual Bay Ridge Ragamuffin Parade. Starting at 1 pm, the parade is comprised of costumed kids marching along Third Avenue in Bay Ridge from 72nd to 92nd streets. You can just jump in this parade, but, each child that is registered and marches the whole route in costume gets a free gift. Expect marching bands, bag pipers, dance groups, floats and thousands of marchers and spectators for an all around awesome Brooklyn afternoon. Call (718) 833-4928 or email Ted General at generally@hotmail.com for registration and info. And, hey, if you do get all dressed up, make sure to snap a pic and enter it into our Halloween Photo Contest.
We posted about some great events this weekend which we don’t want you to forget – there is the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum Apple Festival on Saturday in Brooklyn and the 2008 Art Under the Bridge Festival in Dumbo which runs all weekend, read Jodi’s post for the full scoop.
And while you are in Dumbo, check out Bubby’s 5th Annual Bubby's Pie Social. Try out your pie making skills or just focus on pie eating at this benefit event for NYC Public Schools. With an entrée fee of $10.00 and at least one homemade pie you get 5 free tasting tickets and a big blue ribbon. Go online for details and to download an application. Sunday, September 29 12-3PM.
And now for the weekends best line up of not-free but indoor kid-parties. On Saturday, Sept. 27 from 11AM -6PM check out the Third Annual Brooklyn's Best Family Event featuring the Bari Koral Family Band, a kids play space with a trapeze, tattoo station, improv and more. $12 adults and $8 for kids. And on Sunday, Sept 28th 12:30 PM you can take your kids to a real concert venue and check out Audra Rox (pictured above) at the Highline Ballroom in downtown Manhattan. $20 adults and $10 kids.
There's lots more events in our event calendar too.
