Help Others By Helping Yourself to Some Free Knitting Lessons for Kids

I like the fact that there are some organizations that make volunteering fun and feel not that different than any activity you might do with your children, but for a good cause. I just found out about one such event this weekend: A charity knit-off for teens and tweens.

Sponsored by the South Street Seaport and Teen Entrepreneur Boot Camp, a cool organization that gets teenagers involved in hands-on entrepreneurial learning experiences, the Teen Charity Knit-Off will have professional knitting instructors teaching kids (and their adults) how to knit a gift to be donated to the Henry Street Shelter for Battered Women and Children. All of the supplies will be provided, all you need to bring are your arms and you willingness to try. This would be a great event even if it wasn't to help others: I love that you can do both at once. Now that's multitasking.

You must RSVP today if you want to attend this event so that they know how many knitting needles and how much yarn to get. Also note, even though it is called for teens, I spoke to the organizer and she says any child that will be able to knit can do it, probably aged 10 and up.
