A Geeky Guide to Valentines Day Gift Ideas

1/25/10 - By Anna Fader

Valentine's Day is a holiday I've always had a love-hate relationship with, but considering my husband's love affair with all things Apple, this year I'm turning it over to his mistress to celebrate Valentines Day. It's a good move, really, because Apple seems to have the bases covered this V-Day from free apps to help you plan a special night out, to heart iTunes store gift cards, or even a pretty pink or red iPod Nano and plenty of creative ways to use the technology to make special, memorable Valentines Day Cards and Keepsakes. Read on to find out more about some really cool and creative Valentines Day Gift Ideas.

Oh, and check the Snap This Up section at the top of the home page for a great giveaway! (hint: it's an iPod and you can touch it)

I love the little iPhoto books you can create from your own pictures. Adding text and photos to the Apple designs is easy and makes sure they come out looking good. And these adorable mini-books are priced right at 3 for $11.97 and make perfect little keepsake Valentines for your loved ones.

If you need a little inspiration for what to say, use an app like Love Poem Generator (free) to create your own unique Valentine's Day message to put in your card.

You can buy the someecards ($.99) app to send a funny card right from your device (handy when you're standing outside the door and realize you forgot a special occasion) or use the 1 800 Flowers (free) to order last minute flowers.

Custom engraving is free and turns a great gift into a romantic reminder every time your loved one whips it out. With the new video and camera capabilities of the iPod Nano, you could even add a little video message to the phone from the kids before wrapping it up. At $149, with all the features of the new iPod Nano, it's a great gift and a great value.

Disclosure: If this post seems a little unusually enthusiastic, I want to confirm that, no, I did not get compensated in any way to write this post (as if Apple needs to pay people to go gaga over their products). Apple did offer to send me an iPod and gift cards, but after using them to review the products, I will be passing them on to our giveaway winners.
