This week's hot tips and important stories for parents, so you can be the most-in-the-knowiest.

But first - congratulations to the winner of our Kiddie Cruise Giveaway, lucky reader Mabl!  Sorry to hear that you have been reading a set of functional specs for work all summer, at least your 5 year old has better taste in reading materials with the new Brambly Hedge book, Wilfred to the Rescue. We are very happy that now you can put down that work reading and spend some time enjoying your summer on the Kiddie Cruise

And now, onto the news....

Standing Room Only. Check this out - the Transit Authority is about to unveil seatless subway cars. They will have folding seats which will be locked in the up position during rush hour.  Pros, more room for strollers.  Cons, nowhere to sit when you are pregnant, oh wait, thats the same as it is now.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Olympic Fever.
This week saw the start of the somewhat boring and for some reason irresistible Summer Olympics.  The Daily News puts together a Summer Olympics primer and the LMag tries to convince you to boycott the Olympics  Oh, and did you know that the Chinese Government made the rain go away for the opening ceremonies? Really.

Summer Streets Underway. Gothamist reports on a successful start to Summer Streets Saturdays, if you missed this one they will happen again on August 16 and 23.

Voluntourism. A great list of organizations that will help you plan a family volunteering vacation, you may not get to meet Mickey but you can teach your kids what it feels like to change the world.

Summer Advice. NPR gives some advice on what to do for a sunburn because we all remember to lather up our kids and forget about ourselves. And, make no-more-tangles a reality with the ow-cow game created by a parent-hack reader which turns hair brushing into a game.

John Edwards Admits. What a boring story, man meets girl in NY bar, has affair and puts the future of the planet in jeopardy. Thank god the guy didn't get the nomination. Aren't these politicians getting tired of being such cliches? I certainly am.

If you are looking for more to read, check out what all the other parents are reading this summer in the comments section of the Kiddie Cruise Giveaway. I'm picking up one or two suggestions from there before heading to the beach this weekend.
