Weekday Event Picks for LA Kids: Presidents, Mardi Gras, and Free Babysitting, February 16-20

2/15/15 - By Jacqueline Stansbury

Somehow it just seems appropriate to celebrate Presidents Day at a Presidential Library, which is probably why the Library and Museum that honors Ronald Reagan’s presidency has been hosting a free party on this day for the past 23 years. Hot dogs, apple pie, and jelly beans are part of the free festivities; think about springing for a museum ticket, too, though. It is kind of cool to walk through an Air Force One. Meanwhile, head to the Farmers Market and feel like you are at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. End the week dining with your partner, but don’t worry about babysitting; Olive Garden and My Gym have it covered.

2. Mardi Gras – Tuesday
Beads, beignets gumbo, and jambalaya: it’s almost like being in New Orleans. Appropriate since this is my go to location when I want a praline. There is also a “Mutti Gras” costume contest for dogs.

3. Lady and the Tramp – Wednesday
If you love the movies, there is nothing quite like a trip to El Capitan. It’s even better when you get to drag your kids to a classic. This one is a timeless love story.

4. MomFair – Thursday
Sometimes we want to, and sometimes we have to, but many of us moms who have spent some years home with the kids find ourselves returning to the work place. This is a conference in Agoura, where you can network and get advice about navigating this transition.

5. Parents Night Out – Friday
Who can say “no” to breadsticks and endless salad? Certainly not when you could also enjoy a guilt free glass of vino while the kids eat, play, and exercise for free at My Gym. Don’t forget your receipt from dinner.
