Toys R Us is Back in Houston With A Playground, Games & More Ways for Kids to Play

2/17/20 - By Ashley Jones

Toys R Us is back in Houston and kids can now live out their dreams playing with just about every toy in the store at the new hands-on concept. After closing all locations in 2018, the new version of the store re-opened inside The Galleria Houston in December 2019. The re-imagined Toys R Us features interactive areas where kids can try out the toys available for purchase. While not every single toy is available for play, the store is broken up into sections for kids to explore different types of toys and play until their heart's content. Visiting the store is the perfect way to entertain your kids indoors and let them blow off some steam during a day of shopping.

From the moment your kids enter the store, they're greeted by helpful employees who are ready and waiting to guide them through interactive toy exhibits. Kids can climb up inside of the giant tree house at the front of the store and get a birds-eye-view of all of the exciting play areas throughout the store, including the comfortable reading nooks filled with kid-sized bookshelves directly below.

The giant indoor tree house inside of Toys R Us is the perfect hang out for excited kids.

Climbing down from the tree house after getting a good look at the entire store from above is absolutely exhilarating.

Kids and parents are encouraged to read together right in the middle of the store.

Along the right side of the store, different themed areas where kids can try out toys are separated into several sections. Areas to play with LEGOs, try out the latest Nintendo games, play with a giant Paw Patrol tower, test out Nerf guns, and create artful masterpieces with Cra-Z-Art supplies. On a recent visit, my kids spent the bulk of our time in the store bouncing back and forth between these areas enjoying playing with the different toys in each. While they played, store associates helped explain how the toys worked and encouraged them to play as much as they wanted.

The LEGO area features all of the latest LEGO sets, with an interactive area to build Ninjago figures.

My kids were jumping with joy over the interactive Paw Patrol area where they got to race the patrol cars down the giant lookout tower.

My kids loved trying out new Nintendo Switch games.

The Nintendo area has plenty of stations for kids to take turns playing on new models of Nintendo DS.

My kids loved playing on the kinetic sand table.

In the back of the store, kids can play with the Geoffery's Magical Mirror interactive screen where Geoffery will do whatever your kids are doing inside of the exhibit.  Also at the back of the store, there is an entire room devoted to learning where kids can engage in employee-led classes, sing-a-longs, or listen to books being read. Additionally, kids can sit and draw or color in this area. On the left side of the store, more items available for purchase line the walls and a table showcasing new toys with iPads showing information about the toys. If you want to know where a toy is located throughout the store, several touchscreen kiosks allow you to search for a specific toy and give detailed information about it.

Geoffery's mirror was a huge hit with my kids.

The touchscreen kiosks are helpful for adults and neat for kids to engage with as well.

The table showcasing new toys is perfect for helping parents understand the education aspects of these featured toys.

Whether drawing or reading books, the room in the back of the store provided plenty of space for kids to learn.

Whether you just visit the store to re-live your childhood fantasy of actually playing with all of the toys inside of Toys R Us, or you're in the market for some new things to play with, your kids will love spending time at the new Toys R Us inside of The Galleria.
