New Inventions & Innovations Exhibit at Bridgeport's Discovery Museum and Planetarium

This isn't a rush-out-and-see-it type of exhibit — however, if you're used to skipping over the Discovery Museum’s main floor center hall, give it a chance next time. The 'Connecticut Inventions and Innovations’ exhibit was originally conceived with the Discovery Museum's adult patrons in mind … which is why all of us parents ended up blowing past it. This second edition of the exhibit is an upgrade — it feels like a miniature Smithsonian American History display, where the treasures are solely from the Nutmeg State.

The focus is on Connecticut’s industrial history and showcases three themes titled ‘On the Move', 'Please Write' and 'All in a Day’s Work.’ The kids are welcome to pound on a real typewriter (insert mommy blogger swoon), check out some antique speed skating blades, and ponder how one mounts a high-wheel bicycle (answer: I don't know, honey).
Any students studying Women's History month this March might enjoy the 'All in a Day's Work' photo collection, featuring women factory workers from the late 1800s to the mid-20th century. And if they’re in attendance on Saturday, March 15, they can participate in a special event celebrating Women’s History. Women who have made careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) will be fielding questions, and kids can also do crafts, hair braiding and of course, see science demos and planetarium shows. Admission will be FREE!
