Mom & Me: Wolfies Swim School

Ages: 4 to 13 months (littles) & 14 to 30 months (bigs)
Class size: Up to 6 children per instructor
What to expect: Both the littles and bigs classes are designed to get your child comfortable in the water, with goals such as assisted back floating, assisted wall grabbing, blowing bubbles, splashing, and kicking with excitement. At this stage, swimming with the parent or caregiver eases the tension that often comes with beginner swimmers, and these classes are the first step towards achieving swimming autonomy. 

Family and Fins 1 & 2: Saint Street Swim

Ages: 1 to 2 years old
Class size: 4 children per instructor
What to expect: Water adjustment is the primary objective for both levels of Family and Fins, and this is done through drills and games led by your child's swim instructor. Water safety skills, body positioning, submersion and body movement in the water are core objectives in each class so that your child becomes comfortable and confident in the water. 

Mini 1 & 2: Goldfish Swim School

Ages: 4 to 35 months
Class size: 6 children per instructor
What to expect: The Mini 1 & 2 classes offer a gentle introduction to the water, focusing on acquiring basic water safety and swimming skills and allowing parents and caregivers to bond with their children in the water.

Infant/Toddler Swim: YMCA

Ages: 6 to 36 months
Class size: 8-10 children per instructor
What to expect: Fun, confidence-building experiences are used to develop comfort in the water and teach swim readiness skills at the YMCA. Parents and caregivers work with their children to learn water safety, drowning prevention, floating, blowing bubbles, body positioning, fundamental safety and aquatic skills and the importance of adult supervision.

Parent & Tot: Aqua-Tots Swim Schools

Ages: 4 to 30 months
Class size: 4 children per instructor
What to expect: For children ages 4-12 months (tadpoles), Aqua-Tots works on teaching water adjustment to safe skills and practices, equipping parents with the tools they need to confidently handle their babies in the water. Once children reach the minnows level (ages 13 to 30 months), the focus shifts to creating boundaries in and around water.

Baby Classes: Pengu Swim School

Ages: 4 to 36 months
Class size: 6 children per instructor
What to expect: Both levels one and two of the Pengu Baby classes are about acclimation and comfort and safety in the water, with level one relying more on baby reflexes and level two honing in on teaching skills. By the end of the level 2 course, swimmers should be able to swim underwater, float, move side-to-side on the wall and pull themselves out to safety.

Emler Swim School

What to expect: The Bathtime Babies at Emler Swim School for babies ages 2-5 months are offered once weekly for 30 minutes for FREE to help parents learn how to make the most of bathtime and water experiences with their babies in order to learn buoyancy and gain confidence int he water. Parents are also encouraged to participate with their children up to 35 months of age in the Waterbabies classes where babies and toddlers are taught breath control and how to move through the water for up to 3 feet. 

Houston Swim Club Swim School

What to expect: In both the Starfish and Sea Turtle levels of swim lessons at Houston Swim Club, babies and toddlers will learn basic water safety, floating techniques, basic breath control, and self-rescue skills with their parent in the water during each 30-minute weekly session. 

SwimBaby at SwimJim 

1100 Wilcrest Drive, Houston
Ages: 8 weeks to 36 months
Class size: 6 children per instructor
What to expect: SwimJim offers three levels of lessons where caregivers are actively involved in the water during lessons. Swim N Splash, Swimfants, and Swimbabies classes teach progressive skills that allow kids to become comfortable in the water by incorporating age-appropriate games to help children learn about breath control and floatation.
