We know that transportation is often a highly ranked amenity when scouting out summer camps. That's why last week, we rounded up programs throughout Westchester County that offer busing. This week we're turning our attention to the many summer camps throughout Lower Hudson Valley that offer this same convenient service.

Ramaquois – Pomona
Held at the foothills of the Ramapo Mountains, Ramaquois features the traditional swimming and athletic activities on its 44 acres, but it also adds in a spray park, zip line, ropes courses, science lab and an indoor gym, to just name a few. Door-to-door bus or van transportation is available for children living in Westchester, Rockland and Bergen counties, as well as those in Manhattan and parts of Connecticut. The camp has one or two designated bus counselors who ride on each vehicle.
Deer Mountain Camp – Pomona
Family owned and operated since the 1950s, Deer Mountain lets kids swim in one of the six pools and canoe, kayak, fish or bumper boat in its lake. Door-to-door transportation is provided from Rockland, Westchester, Bergen, parts of Orange County and Manhattan. There are also central pick-up locations in Hoboken, Jersey City and parts of Brooklyn.
Deerkill Day Camp – Suffern
Another family owned and operated day camp—this one by the Rhodes family since the 1950s—Deerkill’s rates also include family membership to the pool club on weekends, towel service, lunches and field trips. Door-to-door transportation is provided from Manhattan, Rockland, Bergen, Hoboken and Montclair, as well as most of Orange County.
Woodmont Day Camp – New City
Not only is door-to-door transportation available from Woodmont, but this camp takes it a step further by offering a Bus Activity Calendar with designated theme days just for the ride (think Rock, Paper, Scissors or Silly Mustache Day). Transportation is available for those living in Rockland, Westchester, Bergen and Manhattan.
Camp Venture – Stony Point
A camp for kids with and without special needs, the seven-acre Camp Venture has two swimming pools, horseback riding, a playground and a petting zoo. Limited bus transportation is provided from central locations in parts of Rockland.
Gate Hill Day Camp – Stony Point
Kids ages 3 to those entering 10th grade can swim, play sports, practice martial arts, learn music and participate in performing arts at Gate Hill. Door-to-door transportation is provided from most towns in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Bergen counties, and from Inwood to Battery Park in Manhattan. The camp has a helpful interactive map to see if your town is included.
Pre-School Playhouse Funland – Blauvelt
This camp is for younger children, ages to 2 through 9, and has swimming, arts and crafts, sports and field trips. Door-to-door transportation via Honda Odyssey is available for an additional fee for campers living in West Nyack, New City, Tappan, Nanuet and Blauevelt. Contact the camp for information on other surrounding areas.
Blue Rill Day Camp – Airmont
Campers can swim in the three pools at Blue Rill and choose from a variety of activities. Mini-bus transportation is provided for Rockland and Bergen counties, as well as the Upper East and Upper West Sides of Manhattan.
The Nature Place Day Camp – Chestnut Ridge
Held on 200 acres on the Green Meadow Waldorf School, campers are given the opportunity to hike, camp, explore and swim, as well as learn about animals, nature and farming. Children living Westchester, Manhattan or Brooklyn can take a free bus from central drop-off points, while busing is available for an extra fee for those in Bergen County. Transportation is provided by Chestnut Ridge Transportation.
Rosmarins Day Camp – Monroe
Family-owned and -operated since the 1940s, Rosmarins is an all-inclusive day camp with swimming pools, a ropes course, athletic fields and courts, a climbing wall and a farm animal corral. Kids ages 3-15 can be bused from anywhere in Orange County, and the door-to-door transportation is included, as are all snacks, meals and towel service.
Free Spirit Nature Camp – Westtown
Held on a 160-acre farm, this camp lets kids get back to nature with canoeing, wilderness and survival skills, music, arts and crafts, science and exploration. My son attended two-week sessions when he was 7 and 8, and they were the highlight of his summer both years. He came home each day dirty, tired and clamoring to return the next morning. Van transportation is provided for an additional fee, with central pick-up and drop-off locations in Circleville, Scotchtown, Middletown, Goshen, Florida, Warwick and Pine Island. This camp is one of the area’s most affordable options for those seeking transportation.
Day Camp In The Park – Harriman State Park
This camp, held on Lake Tiorati in Harriman State Park, boasts its own waterpark with several water slides, a water seesaw, a water trampoline and an obstacle course. Door-to-door transportation via mini bus is included in the fee; it’s available for children living anywhere in Orange, Westchester, Rockland and Bergen counties, as well those in Manhattan.
YMCA Camp Discovery – Harriman State Park
This YMCA camp is held at Upper Twin Lakes in Harriman State Park and is available for kids ages 5-15. Swimming and boating are offered as part of a comprehensive summer program. Children can be bused from central pick-up and drop-off locations at the Central Valley Elementary School or the South Orange Family YMCA in Monroe.
Kiwi Country Day Camp – Carmel
Not only does Kiwi provide door-to-door transportation via SUVs (for an additional fee), but children can also ride a dedicated train car with counselors on the Metro-North Harlem line (from North White Plains to Croton Falls). It also offers free bus transportation from central locations in Katonah, Yorktown, Somers, Chappaqua and Ridgefield, CT.
Hillcroft Day Camp – LaGrangeville
This camp has three swimming pools, as well as a lake for boating, fishing, and frog and turtle catching. Hillcroft Day Camp has nine buses to provide transportation to children living within a 20-mile radius of the camp, including Rhinebeck, New Paltz, Fishkill, Poughkeepsie, Pawling, Carmel, Hopewell and Millbrook. Whether it is door-to-door or a central pick-up location will depend on where you live and how many other campers are in your area. Transportation fees apply.
