Cirque du Soleil: Amaluna Opening Weekend – Queens
A March Go List pick: Head to Citi Field to catch the Canadian circus company's over-the-top extravaganza, which takes girl power to a whole new level. In addition to being directed by 2013 Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (the mastermind behind Broadway's circus-themed Pippin), Amaluna features an overwhelmingly female cast and a plot inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest. $50-$145

Knee Deep – Midtown West
More big-top fun: Australia's Casus company is on the other end of the circus spectrum. No flashy costumes or sets here. Instead, the four performers captivate with their enviable balancing, aerial and physical comedy skills in this hour-long revue at the New Victory Theater. $14-$38

UniverSoul Circus – the Bronx
And another circus show! The African-American troupe features traditional acts like acrobats, aerialists and elephants, along with Caribbean Dancers, a live hip-hop DJ and break-dancing clowns. $16-$40, free for children under 1

New York International Children's Film Festival – Manhattan
It's the penultimate weekend of the month-long family film fest. Highlights include Saturday's North American premiere of Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart and Anina. Fantasy Forest at the Flushing Meadow Carousel Opening Weekend – Corona

VH1's Annual Save the Music Day – Upper West Side
Another March Go List pick: Get into the groove at this third annual music fest sponsored by VH1's Save the Music Foundation and hosted by former boy band heartthrob turned hunky dad Nick Lachey. Catch performances by Colour of London, The Annie Minogue Band, and DJ Beauty & the Beatz, and try a variety of music-themed activities. FREE but advance registration required

Sugar Free Allstars – Upper West Side
Catch this genre-busting organ-and-drum-playing duo at Symphony Space. The Allstars' songs are hard to label and run the gamut from funk, soul and gospel, to rock and pop. $20 for adults, $15 for children

Family Workshop: Paper Flowers – Harlem
Head to the historic Morris-Jumel Mansion to learn about vintage gardening techniques, and then create beautiful spring bouquets out of colorful tissue paper, glitter and pipe cleaners. Preregistration required. FREE

Hands-on Nano Demos – Midtown East
Hit the Sony Wonder Technology Lab to learn about nanoscience and nanotechnology, and participate in activities that explore the properties, structures, materials and scale of this field of science. Brooklyn Robot Foundry Tribeca Grand Opening – Tribeca

Macy's Flower Show: A Secret Garden Opening Day – Midtown West
Another March Go List pick: Even though the buds have yet to appear outside they'll definitely be blooming inside at the megastore's annual flower show. This year, Macy's looks to England for inspiration for its Secret Garden display. On opening day, enjoy a bunch of kids' activities including terrarium making, flower manicures, live music performances, a reading of the picture book Ladybug Girl, paper crafts and complimentary snacks. Charlie's Kid – Fort Greene
And another March Go List pick: Swedish mime troupe Pantomimteatern translates Charlie Chaplin's classic 1921 silent film The Kid to the stage at BAM. In this live theater production, three actors use mime and half-masks to play all 14 characters in this tale of the Tramp and his loving relationship with an abandoned child. $12

Bindlestiff Cavalcade of Youth – Coney Island
Kids can cheer on their peers in this unique circus show starring performers under age 21. The acts (and ages) really run the gamut, from little kids just starting out to teens who seem serious about pursuing a circus career. $15 for adults, $10 for children under 21

Ghostbusters with Lin-Manuel Miranda – Washington Heights
Catch the 1984 sci-fi/comedy classic at the glorious United Palace Theater. Prescreening fun includes Tony winner Miranda chatting with actor David Margulies, who played the Mayor of NYC in both Ghostbusters movies, and a tribute to late star Harold Ramis. Come dressed to the nines: Audience members decked out in tuxedos or gowns snag a free bag of popcorn. Speeding down the Spiral Book Reading and Open Studio – Upper East Side
