Presidential Activities for Presidents Day in LA

Presidential Events and Things To Do To Celebrate Presidents Day around Los Angeles

Unlike other holidays, Presidents Day is not a day replete with family rituals; if your family does have a tradition, it's more likely to be hunting for the snow chains before heading off skiing than anything presidential. If you are staying in town for the three-day weekend, though, why not find an activity that makes sense out of Presidents Day? After all, you're more likely to raise a president yourself if you keep your eye on the ball! Check out these five special Presidents Day activities for LA's little POTUS-in-training; and maybe someday your kiddo will add a third presidential museum to the LA landscape.

Presidents Day at the Reagan Library
February 19, 2018
You can bet there are a lot of Gipper fans living in other parts of the country who would be downright jealous that we in SoCal can spend Presidents Day celebrating (for free!) with presidential re-enactors at Reagan's own museum in his own home town. Check out Airforce One while you're there; what could be more presidential?

Presidents Day at the Nixon Library
February 19, 2018
President Reagan is not the only commander-in-chief who hails from these parts. Richard Nixon may not have been the most popular president of his century, but his museum is worth a visit all the same—especially on a holiday when admission is free and includes a kid-friendly presentation on America's presidents and cherry pie. And while he doesn't have the First Jet parked at his place, he does have the First Helicopter. Standing on the steps making a peace sign feels eerily familiar.

The Emancipation Proclamation
through March 30, 2018
The Natural History Museum owns one of only two signed copies of the Emancipation Proclamation, one of the most famous documents ever signed by a president. A visit to see the document Abraham Lincoln signed to free the slaves is a great activity to bring together Presidents Day and Black History Month.

Presidents Day at Pretend City
February 19, 2018
Young kids can get a lesson on some of our nation's most celebrated presidents during the day's festivities at Irvine's favorite children's museum.
