5 Things That Make This Week Different, May 26-30
Every Thursday we draw your attention to the best of the best things to do with kids around LA over the weekend, to make sure that the most intriguing activities on our events calendar don't pass you by. We also kick off each month with a Go List highlighting the weekend events worth planning ahead for. We talk about weekends a lot. But what about weekdays? Don't parents of toddlers crave fun outings all week long? Don't school aged kids love being picked up with an adventure to embrace? You could take them to see the Pompeii exhibit at the California Science Center. You could take them on a scavenger hunt at the Santa Monica Pier. Or you could take them to do one of the following five things that we think make this week different.
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
1. Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade - Monday
Most weeks don't kick off with a parade, but this week does, so why not enjoy it? There are other Memorial Day parades, but we're recommending the one that's marching through Canoga Park for its 25th year and culminates in an antique car show. The parade steps off at 11am.
2. Little Nature Explorers - Tuesday
Franklin Canyon's Nature Center offers one of its periodic programs for toddlers and preschoolers, inviting parents with little ones to enjoy a storytime in the woods with a ranger program.
3. Circus Vargas - Wednesday
The traveling circus that features only extraordinary feats by people (and none by animals) sets up its tents in Woodland Hills, with shows through June 2. Circus Vargas is a lower key circus than its bigger name competition, which for many families is a selling point. Plain old wholesome circus fun.
4. Free Screening of Space Racers - Thursday
The California Science Center hosts a behind-the-scenes look at a new KCET animated show, Space Racers, that introduces preschoolers to the thrills of space travel. Kids can learn how NASA helped with the creation of the series as well as getting a preview screening.
5. Special Grunion Fish-tival - Friday
The Cabrillo Aquarium in San Pedro does a wonderful family-friendly grunion run that surpasses any other local grunion program. A few times each season, the aquarium ups the ante and surpasses its own wonderful program with an even bigger evening fish celebration than usual; this week is one of those times.
