Kiddie Playland: Worthy Addition to Long Island Play Spaces

6/1/17 - By Kimberly Chacon

Kiddie Playland in Williston Park is a bright and cheerful addition to Nassau County’s collection of indoor play spaces for kids. Whether you are looking for open play on a rainy day or are interested in one of the many classes offered, this new spot has it all. Kiddie Playland is an ideal play space for kids ages up to age 6, and there are class offerings for those up to age 10.

After teaching together for several years, pre-K instructors Maria Perrone and Deniz Sevengul decided to follow their dreams and open a unique child development and play center. They designed this facility to focus on three goals: building a community of families, encouraging creativity, and strengthening learning skills.

Enjoy the fully furnished dollhouse.

Upon walking in, visitors notice the eco-friendly space is sparkling clean and has everything little ones need to let imaginations run wild and play. The open areas are well-appointed with wooden climbing structures, including two slides. In addition to these, little visitors can play with a large train table, fully furnished dollhouse, kitchen, a completely stocked dress-up box, and sets of blocks and cars. We visited during an open-play session and it was apparent these teachers love what they are doing. The interactive hosts jump right in with the kids. From blowing bubbles, to singing, and leading kids to find their perfect get-up in the dress-up box, they made sure kids found something to enjoy. My 2-year-old daughter was delighted by the music, singing, and fun.

Get creative at the craft tables.

After exploring the play areas, we headed over to the craft tables, where children are encouraged to get creative with an assortment of markers, paints, and other specialized craft tools. During open-play time children can choose to design a mask, paint a canvas, or do freestyle art. The inviting tables and organized areas are perfect spots to make anything you imagine. Also, the site boasts new bathrooms and a diaper change station.

In addition to open play, Kiddie Playland offers a variety of classes. Music and Movement is its most popular class. Moms and babies participate in 45 minutes of guided fun, using a large parachute, beach balls, instruments, and singing. Afterward, coffee, tea and snacks are offered while little ones hang around to play. Other classes include arts and crafts, ceramics, acting, dance, and Zumba fitness for kids. Acting classes use the specially constructed stage; the current class is learning portions of Annie. A summer camp schedule also will be offered.

One unique area is the School Skills room. Children ages 2-4  can be dropped off for three hours at a time, and classes are designed to encourage children to learn preschool skills in a classroom setting. My daughter was intrigued by this cozy classroom and did not want to leave. In fact, she grabbed a basket of books from one of the shelves and planted herself at the table to learn with Ms. Maria.

Tap into your building potential.

Parents will love this clean facility for its enthusiastic staff, thoughtful toys, and bright, colored interior. It is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon of playtime, but be sure to check out its schedule. If you are planning to make a day trip of it, Williston Park is home to some fun spots for a sweet treat at the end of the day. Check out Hildebrandt's Ice Cream or Sweet to Lick, a popular vegan coffee shop and bakery, and end your day with a smile. Put Kiddie Playland on your list of new places to visit.
