Summer Fun After Labor Day: 20 Ways to Extend the Summer in Boston
We know, we know (sigh). The arrival of Labor Day means the end of splashing in the Frog Pond Spray Pool and jamming with favorite local bands during free outdoor concerts. But it is not the end of the summer! Technically, we still have almost a month left of summer, and gosh darn it, we're going to soak in every last drop. Although we must wait until next year to enjoy many of summer's pleasures, there are plenty of ways to stretch summertime bliss into autumn:

- Play Frisbee on the Esplanade
- Hike the Blue Hills and climb the observation tower for spectacular views of the city
- Frolic in the Public Garden and ride the Swan Boats – closing weekend isn't until the actual end of summer
- Catch a Red Sox game (regular season goes through September)
- Learn all about the history of the Boston Harbor and dine in style on a Lighthouse Brunch Cruise (through September 27)
- See knights in shining armor and stroll among buskers at a Renaissance festival
- Go for a bike ride; Memorial Drive closes to cars on Sundays through early November
- Have a totally retro drive-in experience at the Mendon Twin Drive-In (weekends in September)
- Go on a nature scavenger hunt in Arnold Arboretum
- Play a round of mini golf
- Have a picnic
- See harbor seals frolic in the water outside the New England Aquarium
- Spend a weekend day at a nearby theme park
- Take a spin on a carousel (weekends through October)
- Go exploring on the Boston Harbor Islands – ferries run to Georges Island and Spectacle Island through mid-October
- Pick fruit at a local farm – just trade strawberry and blueberry picking for peach and apple picking
- Take your preschooler on an easy nature hike while the big kids are at school
- Gaze at the stars in the summertime sky
- Climb Boston Light for breathtaking views of the lighthouse's massive Fresnel lens on the inside and Boston Harbor on the outside
- Splash in the Rose Kennedy Greenway fountains (until early October)
