Funny Shows for a Girls’ Night Out in NYC This Fall
You made it through the summer. The kids are back in school. Now for a little me time. And I don’t mean just sitting quietly reveling in being alone for the first time in months (although that’s awesome too). It’s time to go out with some friends and laugh your patooties off together. Hey, maybe even have dinner and adult beverages!
So gather your girl crew, ditch the mini-mes, and head out for a night of fun. We picked out a few Off-Broadway shows that won’t break your budget (one is only $5!), but will give you plenty of giggles. You deserve this!
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
Edgy and funny, prepare to laugh at M.I.L.P., a takedown of the made-for-TV mom. Photo courtesy of the production.
M.I.L.P: Moms I’d Like to Portray – Chelsea
Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater
September 15 and 29, 8pm
Carrie McCrossen’s one-woman show skewers the mom types presented on TV and film. It’s edgy and funny and a refreshing break from the typical “mom” jokes about subpar husbands and needy children. The fast-paced show is only 30 minutes and is followed by another comedy set, which I didn’t find as good. But for five bucks, it’s a bargain. M.I.L.P. is the quickie you really want.
One Funny Mother – Midtown West
New World Stages
Thursdays, 7pm; Saturdays, 8pm
Dena Blizzard became internet famous for her “Chardonnay Go” parody video, but she had already been making hay on the daily trials of motherhood in One Funny Mother. If you want to escape your daily trials, make sure to grab a Groupon to snag $30 tickets.

Jane Austen fans will love this hilarious new take on Sense & Sensibility. Photo by Gregory Costanzo/courtesy of the production.
Sense & Sensibility – Greenwich Village
The Gym at Judson
Thru November 20, 2016
If you love Jane Austen for all the right reasons: the biting commentary on polite society, the torture of conformity, and the celebration of witty, independent women; then you will love this hilarious, modern adaptation of Austen’s first published novel. Grab your bespectacled girlfriends and get ready to laugh, discreetly behind your handkerchiefs, of course.
That Golden Girls Show: A Puppet Parody – Union Square
DR2 Theater
Opens September 19
Our favorite sassy seniors are making a comeback. This time Sophia, Blanche, Rose, and Dorothy will recreate their off-kilter comedy as puppets. Opening September 19, we don’t know yet if the show will be good, great, or so bad it’s good.
