"Crybaby Matinees": Baby-Friendly Movie Theaters in NJ
There are many things we sacrifice as new parents: a good night’s sleep, adult conversation, sometimes even showering. But thanks to “Crybaby Matinees,” catching the latest movie doesn’t have to be added to the list. At these midday screenings, you can bring your baby along with you! Hang with other parents, let your little one sleep (or cry) and enjoy the show. Read on for details on two special programs now offered at New Jersey theaters.

AMC Theatres, in partnership with The Bump, recently launched “Bring Your Baby Matinees” at select AMC locations across the country. On the first Tuesday of every month at noon, new movies will be screened just for parents and their babies, providing a stress-free, baby-friendly experience. Relax, socialize with other parents and treat yourself to the latest flick. There is plenty of parking for strollers, moms are welcome to breastfeed and of course, crying babies are allowed. You’ll finally get the chance to enjoy a movie without fear of being “shushed!”
Mark your calendar for What to Expect When You’re Expecting on Tuesday, June 5th. Inspired by the bestselling book, this star-studded comedy follows five couples as they experience the joys and challenges of parenthood. Or maybe ’80s hair bands are more your speed? Then stay tuned for Rock of Ages on July 3rd, starring Tom Cruise as aging rocker Stacee Jaxx and featuring all the classic ’80s tunes you love!
Bring Your Baby Matinees take place at nine theaters throughout New Jersey (Cherry Hill, Clifton, Eatontown, Elizabeth, Freehold, Hamilton, New Brunswick, Paramus, Rockaway), as well as two New York City locations (Kips Bay and Lincoln Square). Please visit the AMC website to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets are full price for adults and admission is free for the babies.
“Baby Pictures” is a similar program presented by Showcase Cinemas – join them for the newest releases at select theaters each month. The matinees feature dimmed lighting for easier childcare, lowered volume to protect sensitive baby ears, diaper changing stations and a designated stroller check-in area. Moms love having the run of the theater and bonding with other parents in a fun, laid-back environment. Let your baby bounce on your lap or crawl around – no one will mind a bit.
The majority of participating locations are in New England but there is one NJ theater on the list: Edgewater Multiplex Cinemas. Prior features include chick-flick The Vow, as well as The Hunger Games, and next up is What to Expect When You’re Expecting on 5/24 at 12pm.
