Weekend Fun for NJ Kids: Rock & Gem Show, Apple Cidering, November 7-8

Here’s to another crazy and fun Halloween come and gone! Now’s the time to kick back and relax with family and friends and enjoy the last few weeks of autumn weather before old man winter takes over. Get your fill of fresh fall air during an Apple Cidering demo at Great Swamp, the Rock, Gem & Mineral Show at Trailside Nature Center or a Weekend Family Walk at the beautiful Pyramid Mountain. Other fun November happenings include a performance of Beauty and the Beast Jr. by the West Hudson Arts Theater Company and the big Touch-a-Truck event at Deer Path Park. Apple Cidering (Chatham, NJ)
Learn all about the apple cidering process at Great Swamp this weekend. Help prepare and grind the apples by turning an old-fashioned cider press and taste a delicious sample of fresh, homemade cider.

Rock, Gem & Mineral Show (Mountainside, NJ)
Explore minerals, rocks, gems and fossils at Trailside Nature Center. Over 20 vendors will be selling minerals, rocks, gemstones and jewelry from around the world. Children's activities will include fossil rubbings, puzzles and a touch table.

Enjoy a great day outdoors with the family at Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Stop by the Haggerty Education Center for this month’s nature Photo Scavenger Hunt. Bring your camera and take a photo of every item to earn a prize!

Touch-a-Truck Day (Flemington, NJ)
Calling all little firefighters! Families are invited to this annual event featuring dump trucks, fire trucks, ambulances, police cars and military jeeps. Check out over 40 vehicles all in one place and parked so kids of all ages can get a close-up look.

Weekend Family Walk (Montville Township, NJ)
Get a dose of fresh autumn air before it gets cold! Take an easy, guided walk through the beautiful wooded trails of Pyramid Mountain. Bring the little guys too – this family-friendly hike is designed to be a relaxing and enjoyable outing for the whole gang.

Beauty and the Beast Jr. (Kearny, NJ)
The West Hudson Arts Theater Company continues its successful run of family theater performances with a classic fairy tale brought to life through song and dance in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Book tickets and dress your best to see Belle and all her friends in the timeless love story with original Disney music.

Kidz Bop Kids: Make Some Noise! (Red Bank, NJ)

Big Apple Circus Embraces Autism (New Brunswick, NJ)
Created by New York’s Big Apple Circus especially for children on the autism spectrum, this performance features world-class artists and acts, with incredible feats of juggling, balancing, plate spinning, aerial acts and of course, the Ringmaster. A shorter show length, along with carefully modulated sound and lighting, make the program welcoming to all groups of children with autism.

Native American Craft (Westfield, NJ)
Miller-Cory House Museum offers a presentation on the beliefs of the Lenape Indians, focusing on their custom of medicine pouches. Children are invited to make their own pouch. Museum tours and demonstration of 18th-century open hearth cooking are included.
