New York Renaissance Faire – Tuxedo Park

An abundance of kid-friendly activities will be available at this fall festival: a hay maze, pony rides, petting zoo, animal encounters, t-shirt tie-dyeing, and more. There will also be food and craft vendors, as well as two stages of live entertainment.

Hudson Valley Garlic Festival – Saugerties
Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30, 2018
This pungent festival features multiple live music acts, cooking and gardening demonstrations, and nearly a hundred craft vendors. A designated children’s area features arts and crafts and other activities, as well as a climbing wall. Admission is discounted if you purchase tickets online.

Harvest Fest at Stone Barns – Pocantico Hills

If this event appeals to you, purchase your tickets before you finish reading this sentence. Tickets are typically sold out well in advance. Support Stone Barns at this fundraiser (i.e., pricier than other festivals) while celebrating the harvest, with hayrides, cooking activities, music, a farmer’s market, demos, animal encounters, and more.

Pound Ridge Harvest Festival – Pound Ridge

At the return of this annual event, live music is provided by alt rockers Rusted Root, and kids can enjoy an assortment of games, activities and rides, plus a root beer garden. Free admission, but parking is associated with a fee.

Applefest – Warwick
Sunday, October 14, 2018
With multiple orchards and wineries, Warwick is the land of apples during the fall, all of which culminates in a massive festival. Typically held on the first Sunday in October, this year’s event is pushed back a week, thus avoiding Columbus Day weekend. The village gets crammed from end to end with hundreds of craft and food vendors; a fully stocked famers market; and multiple stages with live music throughout. Pumpkin Festival – Beacon

Enjoy an old-fashioned pumpkin festival with live music at this event organized by the Beacon Sloop Club. The event is designed to raise funds for the club's efforts in support of environmental and social issues.

The popularity of this event has grown it from two days to what will now be a four-day festival in 2018. Features include games, a pumpkin patch, a hay pyramid, hay maze, and more.

New York State Sheep & Wool Festival – Rhinebeck
Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21, 2018
Though this festival attracts die-hard adults who book workshops months in advance, there are loads of children’s activities throughout both days, including Mad Science demonstrations and activities, a petting zoo, kid-specific workshops in the likes of embroidery “painting” and upcycled sweater ornaments. Attractions for all ages include sheep-shearing demonstrations, canine Frisbee demos, and a leaping-llama contest!
