Celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday With These Upcoming Events

From The Cat in the Hat to The Lorax to Green Eggs and Ham, Dr. Seuss has touched the lives of so many through his whimsical rhyming children's books. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries and community centers bring kids and books together to celebrate Read Across America Day on Dr. Seuss's birthday, March 2nd. 

Sponsored by the National Education Association, this nationwide celebration of reading has helped to promote and foster a love of reading for nearly 20 years. Here's a a round up of Read Across America events happening across the state this week and be sure to check out The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield, slated to open this June.

Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash - Hamden
​Enjoy a Dr. Seuss-themed celebration at Lakeshore Learning on Saturday February 25th, with hourly readings of Dr. Seuss classics, rhyming, gross motor games and bookmark-making.

​Drop into the Woodbridge Town Library on Saturday February 25th for Seuss-themed crafts, activities and fun Dr. Seuss giveaways in honor of Dr. Seuss's upcoming birthday.

Celebrate Read Across America Day - Danbury
Join the Danbury Library on Wednesday March 1st for a Read Across America celebration where children ages 4 and up will listen to Dr. Seuss's Horton Hatches the Egg and create a craft. Registration is required.

Read Across America Day - Windsor
Celebrate Read Across America with a Dr. Seuss-themed drop-in story time and craft on Thursday March 2nd. Dr. Seuss character activitiy sheet will be available to take home.

Dr Seuss's Birthday Celebration - Milford
Join Barnes and Noble for a seussical event on Thursday March 2nd in celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday where they will read recently released and classic favorites of Dr. Seuss, play games and activities featuring Dr. Seuss's March Battle of the Books. This event will be offered across the state at multiple Barnes and Noble locations.

Read Across America - Wilton
Celebrate the life of Dr. Seuss at Wilton Library's celebration on Thursday March 2nd. There will be stories, crafts and an interactive scavenger hunt. Registration is required.

Hats Off to Reading - Niantic
​In honor of National Read Across America Day, The Children's Museum of Southeastern CT is offering a Dr. Seuss story every hour on Thursday March 2nd.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss - Hartford
Celebrate the life of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America at the Connecticut Historical Society on Saturday March 4th, where readings of The Lorax will be held at 10:45 and 11:45. After storytime, kids can create their own Seuss-inspired invention.

This free event on Saturday March 4th is open to the public will include free books, pictures with the Cat in the Hat, face painting and more.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss - Fairfield
Fairfield University Bookstore will host their 4th annual Read Across America Day on Saturday March 4th, with a  live Cat in the Hat costume character, a reading of Green Eggs and Ham and kids will take home a simple craft.

Dr. Seuss's Birthday Party - Ridgefield
The Ridgefield Library will be offering two hour-long programs for preschoolers ages 3 and 4 years old in celebration of Dr. Seuss's Birthday on Saturday March 4th. The library will offer games, crafts and refreshments. Registration is required.
