Free Summer Outdoor Movies for Boston Families

Enjoying a film on the big screen in the great outdoors is as much a summertime tradition in Boston as taking in music at an outdoor festival. Bring a picnic dinner and sit back, relax, and enjoy the show at one of these outdoor summer movie series in and around Boston. Movies usually begin at dusk, but you'll want to arrive early for the best viewing spots and to take advantage of pre-movie entertainment when offered.

Summer in the Highlands - Newton
Fridays, June 8 to Sept. 7, 2018 (no movie July 6)
The Hyde Community Center hosts live music followed by a family flick at dusk. Bring blankets or beach chairs; food and drinks will be for sale.

Free Friday Flicks Movie Series - Hatch Shell, Esplanade, Boston
Fridays, June 22 to August 24, 2018
Free Friday Flicks is the “granddaddy” of outdoor movie series, attracting thousands of movie-goers to the Esplanade. The flicks, as well as games and giveaways, start at 6pm.

To celebrate the end of school, Medford is hosting three movie nights this summer at Condon Shell or Wright's Pond. 

Summer Flicks - Patriot Place, Foxboro
July 1, July 11, Aug. 1, Aug. 8, Aug. 15, Aug. 31
Patriot Place and Menchie's Frozen Yogurt host movies on the NRG Plaza, outside the Patriot Pro Shop. Pre-show entertainment starts at 6pm, films at dusk.

Thursdays, July 5 to August 9, 2018
Meet for kid-friendly activities at 6pm and then cozy up on the beach in front of Kelly's Roast Beef for movie screenings at 8pm. 

Family Film Festival - Prudential Center, Boston
Saturdays, July 7 to August 25, 2018
Arrive early for entertainment, children's activities, and giveaways starting at 6pm. All movies start at sundown at the Prudential Center South Garden.

Movies at the Mansion - Lyman Estate, Waltham
Thursday, July 5, 2018
Free showing of Moana begins at dusk, but go early to tour the 1793 mansion and its gardens or enjoy a picnic. At 7:30pm the Waltham High School Show Band provides musical entertainment.

Outdoor Summer Film Series - Wellesley College
Four Thursdays, June 28, July 12, July 26, and August 9, 2018
The Davis Museum at Wellesley College stays open late to run special activities and family movies. There's also free popcorn (and free beer for grateful parents).

Mayor Walsh is bringing free outdoor movies to your neighborhood park. Check out the one nearest you or travel around the neighborhood parks to see them all.
