Thanksgiving Weekend Things to Do in Atlanta with Kids: Tree Lightings, Hanukkah Celebrations

Looking for the best things to do in Atlanta this Thanksgiving weekend? Here are some family-friendly events and activities to add to your weekend list!

Atlanta families have lots to be thankful for this year, including the return of holiday events that we missed in 2020. After the turkey has been made into leftovers or you've wrapped things up at a kid-friendly restaurant, jump right into celebrating the holidays. Check out events like The Lighting of the Great Tree on Thursday night, a Lawrenceville tradition for 34 years. Visitors to the The Battery Atlanta Tree Lighting enjoy live music and an outdoor movie. This year the eight magical nights of Hanukkah start the Sunday after Thanksgiving with family-friendly celebrations including Chabad Intown's Menorah Lighting complete with music, treats, and dreidels.

The Polar Express and Christmas trains are chugging along, including the nearby Holiday Express train on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, which opens the day after Thanksgiving. Speaking of making memories and photo ops, Atlanta also has lots of options for Nutcracker ballets and live holiday shows this season. Find more hot tickets, ideas, and events (even FREE ones!) in our Christmas Activities and Holiday Guide for Atlanta Kids.
