3 New Lantern Shows to Illuminate Long Island this Holiday Season
Long Island is truly a special place during the holidays. From Polar Express rides to light shows and craft fairs, the holiday spirit is everywhere. Adding to that excitement this season are three new lantern shows that will bring smiles as far as the eye can see.
Whether you want to be up close or stay warm in the car, read on for details about the walk-thru LuminoCity Festival in Manhasset and the drive-thru Lantern Festival in Roslyn. Enjoy another speclal show at the Queens County Farm Museum, just over the border from Nassau.

Lantern Events for the Holidays on or Near Long Island
LuminoCity
Whitney Pond Park, Manhasset
Friday, November 12-Sunday, January 9, 2022
All ages are welcome at this timed-entry experience held at Whitney Pond Park in Manhasset. Large sculptures light up the night as you walk through the 12-acre park and become fully immersed in LuminoCity. The event’s mascot, Lumi, takes you through the event all within this year’s theme, “Shine Again.”
Tickets are available for select dates from November 12 through January 9. Adults cost $38, and kids 3-12 are $27; ages 2 and younger are free. VIP tickets, which provide a Fast Pass entrance and goodie bag, are available for $76. All tickets can be changed up until the day before for a $1 fee, and refund requests can also be made in that timeframe.
Luminosity is rain or shine, so be sure to dress for the elements. Strollers are welcome. There is no parking at the venue so visitors park in the Macy’s lot (1100 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset) and then hop on complimentary shuttles to the event.

If you prefer the comfort of your car, the NYC Winter Lantern Festival might be the perfect night out. Don’t let the name confuse you; this event is held at the Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn. This year’s theme, “A Bug’s Night,” will light up more than 20 acres with an impressive display of festive holiday lights, projection mapping, and handmade lanterns in the shape of flowers, bugs, animals, and more.
The event runs on select dates from Friday, October 22 through Sunday, January 9, 2022. You must purchase tickets in advance, and they are nonrefundable. Prices vary based on the date; weekdays are $34.99, weekends are $49.99, and Christmas week is $59.99. All prices are per car, not per person. If you sign up for its email list, you get a discount code for 15% off.
It should take approximately 30-45 minutes to experience the event. When you have finished with the drive, there’s a place to park and enjoy food trucks and a gift shop. Port a-potties are also onsite.

Prepare to be dazzled as the Queens County Farm, located just a few minutes from the Nassau County border, is illuminated with lights and lanterns in the shape of flowers, tractors, farm animals, and more. Pick your own wish lantern from the field of lights, decorate it at the art table, and take it home. Admission for those 13 and older is $24.99 per person; ages 3-12 is $16.99 person. Christmas week admission for adults is $29.99.
