A Cookie Dough Dessert Shop Just Opened in NYC

2/8/17 - By Stephanie Ogozalek

Our sweet-treat-obsessed city is always on the lookout for the next big thing in desserts. I am happy to report it is here—and it's cookie dough. Specifically, the 17 varieties of safe-to-eat uncooked dough dished out at DÕ, Cookie Dough Confections, NYC's first cookie dough scoop shop located in Greenwich Village.

The colorful shop opened in late January to hordes of enthusiasts. In fact, the overwhelming demand caused it to close for a day after the opening weekend in order to replenish its sold-out stock of cookie dough! While the store, which resembles an ice cream shop in design and feel, is new, DÕ isn't. It has been selling its gourmet confections online for several years and has been known to dish out scoops to NYC locals from its commercial kitchen in the East Village.

Dough is a do at DÕ.

My son and I visited DÕ during its opening week. Thankfully, we had an appointment for a tour and didn't have to wait on a line that snaked around the block. Still, after devouring his red velvet cone stuffed with S'mores dough my 12-year-old declared he would have gladly waited in the line for it (or seconds).

We've been warned of the dangers of eating raw cookie dough, but Kristen Tomlan, DÕ's founder, has created a raw cookie dough that is approved for safe eating. She uses heat-treated flour and a pasteurized egg product, removing any risk of bacteria growing in the dough.

You'll find more than a dozen varieties of the sweet stuff at DÕ, including two seasonal flavors and vegan and gluten-free options, are on the menu. Dough comes in customizable offerings: one-, two-, or three-scoop cones or in a cup with plenty of topping options, just like a typical ice cream parlor. It also offers cookie sandwiches, and you even can have your dough mixed with ice cream in sundaes, milkshakes, or ice cream pie.

DÕ offers coffee and other beverages, baked versions of the dough (otherwise known as a cookie), cookie cakes, and its signature bar called a "Brookie," which is a brownie, topped with raw chocolate chip cookie dough and covered in chocolate ganache. If you can't finish your cup or cone, have it packed to take home, where you can eat it raw or pop it in the oven for some fresh-baked goodness. Pre-packed containers to take home for baking are available.

The "Brookie" combines elements of brownie goodness and  trademark dough.

Seating is limited and there are no public restrooms, but the store is steps away from Washington Square Park, where you can find both. DÕ told us that it plans to begin offering birthday parties at which kids (and adults) can make two flavors of cookie batter to sample raw and bake into cookies in DÕ's professional kitchen.

The DÕ cafe is located at 550 LaGuardia Place, near New York University and the West Fourth Street-Washington Square Park subway station in Greenwich Village.
