Weekly Wrap Up: Easter Trains in New Jersey, Egg Hunts on Long Island, Spring Break Camps in NYC

3/31/11 - By Raven Snook

We’ve been very busy here at Mommy Poppins, birthing new sites for families in Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut, while still keeping up with all the cool things going on in New York City. We know you’re busy too, and may not have the time to visit multiple sites. So for your convenience, we’re compiling links to our best weekly posts into yet another post. Yes, we do see the irony in that. But we really don’t want you to miss a thing. There’s so much to do all over the tri-state area!

From special Easter train rides in New Jersey to egg hunts on Long Island (yes, already) to a roundup of spring festivals in NYC, here are the highlights from the world of Mommy Poppins.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Easter starts early in Long Island with two big egg hunts this weekend. There are non-holiday events too, including a production of Madeline and the Bad Hat and a concert by the Silly Dilly Band at the Long Island Children’s Museum.

In Connecticut, we share 52 things to do with kids in Litchfield County. And you thought there were only 50.

New Yorkers can catch the PATH to Hoboken to see the show The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi at the Mile Square Theater. Our reviewer loved it—and she’s even written a children’s play so she knows what she’s talking about. Go on the weekend and perhaps you’ll have time to check out some other New Jersey happenings, like Open Cockpit Day at the New Jersey Aviation Hall of Fame in Teterboro.

You’ll have to wait until next weekend, though, to board the Easter Express. Five New Jersey railroad museums are offering retro train rides with the Easter Bunny beginning the weekend of April 16-17. Also on the New Jersey site: The inside scoop on getting your kids into modeling. It’s great info, regardless of where you live.

Here in New York, we’re all about spring. We’ve rounded up awesome spring break camps, cool spring festivals, and don’t-miss shows for kids this season. Baseball also starts up this weekend, with many Little League teams throwing out their first pitches. We also took a spring day trip to St. George on Staten Island.

Know someone who’s pregnant? Perhaps it’s even you! We researched birthing centers in the city, and also share tips on choosing a hospital or having a home birth.

If you’re all about the weekend, check out our event picks, including free entry to various museums, a rockin’ concert by Princess Katie & Racer Steve, NanoDays at the New York Hall of Science and more.

Whatever you choose to do, have an amazing weekend!
