Weekend Events for Kids on Long Island, September 25-27: Pickle Festival, Biking the Hamptons and more
This week we may have been enjoying the last blast of Summer air, but I can still feel Fall in the air. This weekend, there are lots of great ways for Long Islanders to enjoy the season. Check out some of our picks for great weekend events here, or if you're looking for a great apple or an early pumpkin picking trip be sure to take a look at our other recent posts.

Environmental Fair at Manor Farm
Saturday September 26, 10AM-4PM
210 Manor Rd, Huntington
If you've never heard of Manor Farm, you aren't alone, but it is most definitely worth a trip and some of your time. Acquired by the town of Huntington in 1998, Manor Farm is run by the Starflower Experiences Farm Fund, whose goal is to make the open space an ecologically sound model of open space, education, and support for the restoration of ecological parklands. On Saturday, the group is hosting an Enviornmental Fair which will include plenty of "green" fun, music, and education. There will be plenty of take home projects your child can participate in, and if for nothing else, the food is being provided by Whole Foods. Check out their website for more information.
Annual Pickle Festival at the John Gardiner Farm
Saturday, September 26, 11AM-4PM
900 Park Avenue, Greenlawn
That's correct-they have a festival for everything here, even pickles. While there are more than 65 vats of various pickles to sample, your kids might enjoy the access to the farm's seasonal activities like the corn maze and hay ride. Also available-pumpkins of course. There is a $3 admission fee for anyone 12 and older.
Bike the Hamptons
Saturday, September 26th, 7AM Start
Southampton High School, Southampton
Maybe it's because my 6 year old recently figured out how to ride a two wheeler, but this event looked like a great way to spend a Fall morning. However it is important to note that the minimum tour is 25 miles. On a bike that might not seem to bad, but for a little kids, it might feel like an eternity. So if you have tricycle riders, young ones, or if you are looking for a date morning with someone special, you chould check this out. The terrain is flat and the entrance fee of $35 goes to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For more information, or to pre-register (and save $10) visit their website.

Autumn Leaves Walking Tour
Sunday, September 27, 2pm
Old Westbury Gardens
Old Westbury Gardens is one of our favorite places to visit. It is beautiful and always seasonably appropriate. It seems to provide the perfect anti-suburbanal retreat. This weekend, OWG is hosting a walking tour on it's grounds. You can check out the beautiful mum colors and the hints of leaves turning. The tour starts at 2pm, and after feel free to enjoy a late afternoon snack on the grounds on a picnic blanket.
