Weekend Events for Kids on Long Island, July 17-19: Laurie Berkner Concert, Music Festivals, and Picnics in the Park
Got the mid-Summer Blues? Here is a breakdown of some of the coolest events going on this weekend on The Island to help jump start the stretch of Summer: A great Laurie Berkner Concert, a fun way to meet other moms, a mini staycation in Cold Spring Harbor Village, plus a blues festival. Have fun!

Love Laurie Berkner? Well she's one of the few cool musicians that don't make you travel into the city to see them. There are still tickets available for Saturday's show at the Tilles Center, right in Greenvale off the 25A. If you haven't been there, it is a great venue, and maybe I'm just saying that because it is easy to park there and run right in should it be storming outside. At any rate, Laurie is encouraging attendees to bring new pajamas or story books to donate to children entering foster care.
Saturday, July 18, 11:00 AM
Tilles Center, on the CW Post Campus
720 Northern Bvd, Greenvale
Tickets-$12.50-$35.00
If you haven't searched meet-up.com for a mom's group for you yet, you should. It's how I found my closest friends after moving here a few years ago, and there are literally hundreds of mommy meet-ups on Long Island. One such group is the Children of Color Meet Up Group. Created to celebrate children of all colors, the group is inclusive while celebrating all the diversity we have. And, they are having a big party this weekend at one of our favorite parks, Eisenhower Park, in East Meadow, NY. With catered food, games, music and even mini-sign language lessons, it sounds awesome. Whether you are a member of the group or not, stop by, say hello, and meet some fellow moms. Interested in joining their group? Check it out here.

We love Cold Spring Harbor Village. It is like our very own Nantucket right here on Long Island, only you don't have to pay to rent a house or travel far to get there. It's about half hour from most places, and it has just as much charm. This weekend brings a great excuse to visit; The Whaling Museum is offering a Walking Tour of the VIllage. There is plenty of History to see and learn about, and on a sunny day (like Sunday is forecasted to be), it is a great way to get outdoors and grab some exercise while taking in some education.

279 Main Street, CSH

Summer is all about music festivals here on Long Island. And this weekend's best music festival is in Riverhead. Check out the Riverhead Blues and Music Festival if you happen to be on the Eastern half of the island. Set along the Peconic River but also on an old fashioned Main Street, there are some great bands to enjoy. So grab a blanket, pack a picnic, and head out. $10 for daily admission, but KIDS ARE FREE (under 12).
