Weekend Events for Kids on Long Island, August 28-30th: Kids Day at the US Open and the Hampton Classic and More

8/27/09 - By

The sun might be taking the weekend off, but that doesn't mean you have to. There are plenty great things to do this weekend on Long Island with your kids from one end of it to the other, and we've got three of the best to tell you about:

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

14th Annual Arthur Ashe Kids Day at the US Open: This is hands down the very best way to take your kids to the open. After-all, the kids for the most part don't really enjoy sitting in the grandstands with their heads moving like a ping-pong ball while keeping their mouths closed. Kids Day is filled with clinics, demonstrations, festival type fun and tennis pro appearances. While hard to believe, the event is FREE. If you want to stay and watch the live stadium show (Jordin Sparks is performing), however, in Ashe Stadium, you will need to buy a ticket for $10-$20. For more details or a schedule of events, visit the US Open website here

Saturday, August 29

Starts at 9:30AM, Live Show at 1:00PM

USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center

Flushing Meadow, Corona Park, Flushing

Across the Island, it's Kids Day at the Hampton Classic Horse Show. With typical festival activities like facepainting and a petting zoo, the best part about this Kids Day is that your kids go FREE and you can actually catch some great events, like the Junior/Amateur Show (that's equestrian talk for regular kids that own horses and compete for the love of the sport). It's a really fun day becuase you can enjoy the events, but when the kids get bored you can hit the festival atmosphere across the barn. For more information, check out their website here.

Saturday, August 29

Gates open at 8AM, most exhibits start at 9:30

240 Snake Hollow Rd, Bridgehampton

Down on the South Shore you can check out the Long Island Maritime Museum's Annual Seafood Festival. If for no reason other than consuming great seafood by the shore before the season ends, you should go. But besides the seafood, there is plenty of family entertainment including live music and cool maritime exhibits the kids will dig. For more information and a schedule of events, click here
