Celebrate Don't Be An Idiot Day with They Might Be Giants

Today is the anniversary of the day that I idiotically decided to stick to my commitment of teaching my STUDENT UNION SILKSCREENING CLASS! rather than going to see They Might be Giants, who were playing live in a great small venue in Madison, Wisconsin on the day that happened to be my 20th birthday. Since I'm getting perilously close to an unspeakable age anyway, as of today, I am no longer celebrating my birthday, but only celebrating the anniversary of Don't be an Idiot Day. To celebrate Don't Be An Idiot Day you must go do something fun, preferably at the expense of some obligation that really won't matter in the long run. All of you are welcome to celebrate it with me.
Also, in honor of the mumble mumble anniversary of that momentous day and the first inaugural Don't Be An Idiot Day, I am rejoicing with some news about the band that started it all. Here's some cool stuff going on for TMBG fans:
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
They Might Be A Baseball Team
Inspired by a Seattle Little League Team that named themselves, They Might Be Giants and even made their own "No!" shirts, the Real They Might Be Giants are offering free No!" shirts to ten Little League Teams.
They Might Be Performing
..a kids concert for Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell on Saturday, July 11th at 4pm. Suggested donation, $3. It's going to be madness. I'll be the tiny spec in the back of the crowd.
They Might Be Releasing a New Kids Album
Rumor has it that TMBG is working on a new educational album about science called Here Comes Science to be released in September. Catch a glimpse of a the new song, "I am a Paleontologist."
They Might Be Adorable
Don't forget to check out their family music podcasts. You can find them on YouTube or iTunes.
Alright, everyone, enjoy your Don't Be An Idiot Day. Feel free to share your impulsive fun-seeking her with us. I'm off to go buy my son a drum set. Doh!

Founder of Mommy Poppins
A fourth-generation Brooklynite, Anna started Mommy Poppins in 2007 to help families find the best things to do with kids in NYC, with a particular emphasis on sharing activities that are free, affordable, and enriching. The site, used by millions of families, has grown to become the ultimate resource for parents in the major US cities, plus travel guides for 100s of destinations.
Anna is a believer in the magic of summer camps, traveling with kids, and that you can raise kids on a budget and still have a rich life full of amazing memories. Anna's first Mommy Poppins book, The Young Traveler's Journal and Activity Book, published in 2025 and co-written with her daughter, Amelia Eigerman, brings that ethos to life, in addition to this website.
