Weekday Event Picks for LA Kids: Planetary Pursuits, QE2, & Free Fro-Yo, February 2-6
Start and end this week in contemplation of the universe. Monday it’s Family Astronomy night at the Memorial Branch Public Library, and on Friday Jupiter gets as close to Earth as it’s going to get. Meanwhile the people in the frozen yogurt business must have a case of brain freeze, because National Frozen Yogurt Day is apparently celebrated twice this week - and when we say celebrate, we mean free fro-yo!
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
Monday, Yogurtland is serving up the free fro-yo, and on Friday Menchie’s jumps in. Something tells me it won’t be a problem selling this one to the kids. There are plenty of non-dessert related things to do, though. For instance, a new month always means a new free mini-model at the Lego Store. Check out our event calendar for more ideas.
1. Family Astronomy Night – Monday
Head to the Memorial Branch Library in Hollywood where volunteers from the Sidewalk Astronomers direct families' attention skyward. Check out the stars with and without a telescope.

2. Free Family Night at Kidspace Museum – Tuesday
Admission is free for families on the first Tuesday of the month at this museum in Pasadena. Kids love this space. The grounds outside are fun, and the science and information inside is educational and engaging.

5. Opposition of Jupiter – Friday
Bundle up, grab a flashlight, and make your way to Newbury Park to marvel as this giant planet and its moons cozy up to Earth. The event is canceled if the weather is cloudy.
