As there's always something interesting to see along the highway (my kids love spying water towers), we limited these Orlando roadside stops to those that families could explore, wander, and spend a few hours at. Take a look!

Orlando Roadside Attractions for Families

1. Gatorland - Orlando

Located off Highway 441 (about 20 minutes away from many Orlando theme parks), this "Alligator Capital of the World" will keep kids entertained with its toothy residents. In addition to seeing gators, exotic mammals, birds, and more, this attraction features a zipline, live shows, petting zoo, and more.

2. Dinosaur World - Plant City

Who needs gators when you can have dinos?! Stop along I-4 corridor for a prehistoric adventure -- dinosaur-obsessed kids will love lifesize replicas, fossil digging, koi pond (open for feeding), and more activities.

3. Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing - Ocala

For kids who love going fast and furious, the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing is a great place to visit, sitting along I-75 in Ocala. Learn more about the sport of drag racing, see amazing vehicles, and stop by the gift shop on the way out.

4. Solomon's Castle - Ona

Situated inside Florida's woodlands sits a gleaming castle open for tours. Every surface of this castle shines, in addition to stained glass windows and elaborate glass sculptures. Hungry? Visit the on-site restaurant, Boat in the Moat, for monarchial food and drink. Huzzah!

5. Skunk Ape Research Headquarters - Ochopee

Before we talk about the "why," we need to talk about the "what." Skunk Ape is the Sasquatch of the Southeast, and this elusive creature (fairytale? animal?) occupies the minds of many fans. This oddball attraction sits inside the Trail Lakes Campground property. Take a morning tour of the Everglades or stay overnight and camp at the swamp.

6. Jungle Adventures: A Real Florida Animal Park - Christmas

You know you're in for an adventure when you see the Swampy, world's largest gator, sign at Jungle Adventures. See exotic animals, take a ride on the jungle swamp cruise, and learn more about Florida's natural habitat.

7. Magic Castle Gift Shop - Kissimmee

Left Disney without enough souvenirs? Stop by Magic Castle Gift Shop along the way -- just look for the gigantic wizard overlooking Highway 192.
