Little Kebab Station

Part of what some consider to be a “Little” empire on Main St, Little Kebab Station is a small, casual Indian restaurant adjoining Little Crepe Street and the Little Spice Bazaar. The food delicious, authentic, very reasonably priced and arrives fast—always a plus when you have little ones in tow. Less adventurous eaters will find plenty to enjoy (there are many mild chicken and rice dishes) while vegetarians will be happy with their vegetable and vegan selections. Worried about what the kids will eat? Order them a plate of naan. This soft, buttered Indian bread comes in 6 varieties and can be topped or stuffed with up to 10 different condiments.

Little Crepe Street

Just next door to Little Kebab Station is Little Crepe St. Everything that can be said for Little Kebab Station holds true for this sister shop, though the focus switches from Indian food to delicate crepes. This cozy restaurant features 3 menus: Sweet, Savory and Drinks. The “Savory” menu runs the gamut from breakfast crepes to lunch/dinner crepes and includes a variety of salads and soups. The “Sweet” menu items might be considered dessert by some and a main meal by others; the “Drinks” menu features much more than the traditional soda and coffee offerings. Be sure to order one of the restaurant’s signature Lassi’s at the end of the meal. These special Inidan Yogurt drinks come in 12 flavors and promise to raise physical and mental energy levels. Also bear in mind that Little Kebab Station and Little Crepe St are connected; waiters and waitresses are happy to accommodate “cross ordering.”

Neo World Bistro and Sushi Bar

The first thing we loved about New World Bistro was the neon green interior; the entire place seemed to glow with an otherworldly light. There's plenty for kids to take a look around at, while adults peruse the extensive menu. Inventive sushi rolls would steal the day if it wasn’t for the Korean Bibimbap that flat out wins over everything else in this Asian-inspire restaurant. The kids menu is short, but pleasing; Chicken Teriyaki, breaded Chicken Katsu, Lo-Mein and a “kids” sushi come in smaller servings for smaller stomachs.

Temptation Tea House

Dim Sum was made for children; I hold firm to this belief even in the face of historical evidence that I am wrong. For those who don’t know, dim sum is traditionally served in gigantic catering-hall style venues in large cities like New York and San Francisco. It involves waiters and waitresses pushing small carts of dumplings, egg rolls, buns and other Chinese finger foods past tables, pausing to serve you whatever you would like. While Temptation Tea House is a fantastic place for traditional lunch and dinner fare, it is the “House Special Snack” menu (and the bubble tea!) that I go for. While there are no carts, diners can create their own dim sum experience by choosing a little bit of this and a little bit of that from the Special Snack menu; a perfect way to encourage tiny taste buds to try exciting new foods!

Hacienda La Paloma

For crispy tacos, bulging burritos, melt-in-your-mouth fajitas, guacamole prepared tableside, superbly balanced spices and a wide range of Mexican specialties, head straight to Hacienda La Paloma. The food at this restaurant run by a first-generation Mexican-America family is always fresh and can be prepared to suit diners’ palate preferences from mild to fiery. The kids’ menu is smaller servings of many adult dishes; burritos, tacos, arroz con pollo, quesadillas and chicken fingers.

Lalibela

If there’s one thing kids are good at, it is eating just about anything and everything without so much as attempting to use utensils. At Lalibela, this isn’t just accepted; it’s encouraged! While forks are available upon request, food served at this authentic Ethopian restaurant is meant to be picked up or scooped up on hand-made Injera bread. Vegan and vegetarian options abound, and several of the menu options amount to sampler platters. Stop in Tuesday-Friday to try out their very reasonably priced lunch specials.

Mount Kisco Coach Diner
252 E Main Street
For the most part, Mt. Kisco Coach Diner is what it is. It is a diner. A good diner, with consistently friendly service, large portions and round the clock service. This is the place people go at 2:30 in the afternoon when the hair appointments ran late, soccer practice is starting early, the toddler wants pancakes, the elementary schooler only eats grilled cheese, the teenager wants a veggie burger with no cheese and extra fries and the parents just need more coffee. Then newly expanded diner is unique in the area for its growing number of organic menu options and for its popularity with Governor Andrew Cuomo and former Senator and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.

Ladle of Love

Ladle of Love is no so much where you go to eat dinner, but where you go to get dinner when you want homemade meals without the time in the kitchen. This to-go-only establishment opens at 8:30 for breakfast and stays open until 7 on weekdays and 6 on Saturdays selling sandwiches, salads, prepared entrees, pastas, sides, stews and lots and lots of soups. The menu changes daily and can be found on the company’s website. Owner Leslie Lampert recently launched a related catering service called Love on the Run and, if you happen to find yourself child-free and hungry, Ladle of Love’s sister restaurant Café of Love is outstanding for a quiet, romantic meal.

Lefteris Gyro
190 E Main Street
The second location in a small, local chain of Greek restaurants, Lefteris Gyro in Mt. Kisco offers a slightly more upscale dining atmosphere than its two companion restaurants in Tarrytown and Yorkers. Beyond that, everything is comfortingly identical to the flagship location; the same hummus, the same platters and gyros and, of course, the same outlandishly delicious homemade dressing on oversized Greek salads. Service is quick and friendly and the options include simple pita pizzas, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken fingers and burgers alongside tzatziki sauce, avgolemono and souvalaki. For a real thrill, order the flaming cheese saganaki; it arrives at the table still on fire.

Frannie’s Goodie Shop
134 East Main Street
When families are looking to celebrate a special occasion or grab dessert at the end of a meal, Frannie’s Goodie Shop is the place they go. This locally owned “make your own” frozen yogurt shop offers 12 different flavors on a daily basis, alongside over 80 different toppings. Flavors rotate frequently and always include non-dairy, sugar-free and non-fat options in addition to premium and seasonal flavors. Not in the mood for frozen? Frannie’s also has cupcakes, cookies and hot beverages for sale.

La Tulipe Desserts
455 Lexington Avenue
Known throughout Westchester County for their award winning macaroons, La Tulipe is also the bakery that provided Chelsea Clinton’s 500lb gluten-free wedding cake. La Tulipe’s extensive menu covers it all—macaroons, cakes, cookies, breakfast pastries, hand crafted chocolates, gelato and sorbet, and an ever-changing array of holiday items. Though it is possible to walk in off the street and snag a cake, advanced orders are highly recommended to make sure the bakery has what you want.
