Winter can test your creativity in entertaining the kids, and sometimes you just need to get out of the house or at least find new indoor activities. Fortunately, we have some amazing outdoor winter activities that allow kids to romp, play, and explore, as well as fresh ideas for being at home that can shake off winter fatigue.

Outdoor Winter Activities Near Philly for Kids

1. Hit the Rink 

Lace your skates for a spin on the ice and then warm up by a fire pit. Some of Philly's outdoor rinks also have games and other kid-friendly activities, and of course, hot chocolate.

2. Ski and Snowboard

Many of Pennsylvania's mountains make the perfect visit for families with young kids who are just starting, but experts are sure to find these slopes fun as well.

3. Play Chilly Philly Mini-Golf

Bundle up for a hole-in-one during a chilly game of Philly Mini Golf presented by IBEW Local 98 at Franklin Square. Putt the ball amid familiar miniaturized Philadelphia sites.

4. Walk Around Longwood Gardens

Take in the beauty of the well-manicured grounds, and catch the Winter Wonder exhibit running through March.

Walk around for amazing views of the grounds and get a bird's eye view from the Out on a Limb exhibit. 

11. Electrical Spectacle at Franklin Square

Franklin Square is glowing all through February. Don't miss Electrical Spectacle.

12. Catch the Last Holiday Lights 

If you missed Shady Brook Farm's holiday light show drive-thru over the holidays, there's still time to view it on weekends throughout January. 

13. Visit Peace Valley Nature Center 

Winter events run into March and include storytime and guided walks with themes like "Out of Hibernation," "Blue Bird Workshop," and "Maple Sugar Day."

Lace up your skates, cozy up in the warming cabins or a firepit station, ride the boardwalk rides, and more at Blue Cross RiverRink's Winterfest.

15. Go Maple Sugaring

Tree-tapping season officially kicks off in February with sugarings and tastings running through April. Popular events include the festival at Wissahickon Environmental Center and Warwick County Park.
