This Elite Bronx Tennis Program Helps Kids Become Pros

According to Malcom Gladwell’s Outliers, "ten thousand hours is the magic number of greatness," and when it comes to tennis, Centre Court Logistics agrees. The philosophy behind the elite training program is that sufficient practice in a particular skill can take anyone to top-tier proficiency, and students who start clocking those crucial hours on the court at an early age are best equipped to succeed. That's exactly why during their next round of tryouts, which take place this summer, the coaches will be looking for tennis-loving kids ages five to ten who hope to one day play with the pros.

Located in Crotona Park in the Bronx, Centre Court Logistics offers high-performance tennis training for aspiring young athletes, led by Coach Pat Asante. Asante has been coaching in New York City for over twenty years, and has developed top ranked players at Beacon High School and Riverdale Country Day School, as well as those who have gone on to Division I schools and even the ATP World Tour. Not only is he passionate about the game, but he's developed a comprehensive training approach that goes so far as to teach kids about the math of the tennis court—like how many steps they'll actually need to train for to have the stamina for a match. The program also focuses on strength training, conditioning, nutrition, and mental toughness.

The upcoming Centre Court Recruiting Combine is a two-day selection process for children who are dreaming about playing at the elite level, and the families who are ready to cheer them on. The first day is a town hall-type meeting that's free of charge, where parents have the opportunity to connect with the coaches. Westchester moms and dads can attend the meeting at Hyatt Place Yonkers at 7:00pm on Thursday, July 27, while New Yorkers can head to Columbia University at 6:45pm on Monday, July 31. The second day of tryouts is all about performance evaluations and will be held at Cary Leeds Tennis Center from 6:00am to 10:00am on Saturday, August 12, with a $195 fee per child. The evaluations are designed to analyze players’ attitude and skill set, as well as their commitment to high performance coaching. If accepted, kids are placed into a program based on their age and skill level.

Most parents will agree that children are like sponges, and Coach Asante believes that's why kids are able to truly master tennis when given the opportunity and, ultimately, the time. So, if your aspiring young tennis star is ready to get serious, learn more about Centre Court Logistics and mark your calendar for tryouts!
