1. Bubby's Beanery – Tom's River

This relaxed coffee shop with a music focus lets you flip through vinyl as you sip your favorite coffee. All coffees are organic and sourced, roasted, and brewed by Bubby's. For the kids, there are iced and hot chocolate options as well as fresh and frozen lemonade. Plus, there are pop-star-inspired drinks with homemade flavored creams to sweeten the deal.

2. Charleston Coffee House – New Egypt

This cozy coffee shop is the perfect casual spot to have some calm family time over a delicious cup of Joe. For the kids, there's a really nice smoothie and bakery menu. We love that they host a Santa letter box every year as well as occasional sip-and-paint events and other fun family-friendly fun throughout the year.

3. KTB Coffee Shop and Lounge – North Arlington, Hasbrouck Heights

Coffee, panini, smoothies, crepes....your taste buds will be happy here! With a relaxed atmosphere and yummy food, this coffee shop also frequently has live music and events at night. Sometimes, there are kids' events earlier in the day like a Halloween party or gingerbread house building, and there's a little kiddie corner with some toys.

4. Cedar Bean's Coffee Joint – Cedar Grove

This quaint shop makes kids feel as welcome as adults. You can order hot chocolate at "kid temp" (thank you!) or treat your little one to a specialty caffeine-free drink like Monkey Business (banana, caramel, and steamed milk) or Bee's Kneez (honey, cinnamon, and steamed milk). Throughout the year, they host events like kid-friendly musicians, book readings, and visits from special characters during the holidays.

The Hive has some amazing cookies, so your child will want to sip and play as much as you do. The play space is open daily from 7am to 5am for $7 per child. 

6. Barista's Coffee House – Linwood

This spot is fun because they offer cute flights of drinks (flight reservations are required on the weekend). The hot chocolate flight, for instance, comes with four varieties to try: peppermint, Nutella, cookies & cream, and white. There are also lattes flights and a traditional flight—perfect for giving your teen their first tastes of cappuccino, cafe mocha, caramel macchiato, and vanilla latte. Aside from flights, there's a huge breakfast and lunch menu. There are a bunch of coffee-free frappes, fruit smoothies, Italian sodas, cocoa drinks with flavored steamers, and more! 

7. Hidden Grounds – New Brunswick, Hoboken, Jersey City

Grab a spot on the couches, order up a steamy beverage, and stay awhile. Each location of this coffee shop chain has its own vibe, but they're all cozy and comforting. The Hudson Street spot in Hoboken and the New Brunswick location at 4C Easton Ave. have espresso bars and plenty of seating.

8. Paper Plane Coffee Co. – Montclair

This well-loved Montclair coffee shop is moving to a larger location in mid-January 2023, and it will definitely be a place for families to unwind. The owner says the space was created with everyone in mind, including kids. Part of the shop has seating that feels like you're in an airplane, and the new space has two free arcades that are preloaded with several nostalgic games for everyone to enjoy. As for the menu, there are kid steamers, hot chocolate, and small snacks.

9. Grooveground Coffeebar – Collingswood

Grooveground is a record and coffee shop combo that features a great outdoor seating area. Sip and enjoy music outside on certain Friday nights. In the winter, kids will love the hot chocolate bar with seven flavors to choose from. And in the summertime, the shop has popsicles to cool you down.

10. Kudo Society – Teaneck, Palisades Park, Bergenfield

Kudo Society has something for everyone, starting with freshly roasted coffee and fresh-out-of-the-oven baked goods. You'll win over the kids with the smoothies, frozen hot chocolate, or the hazelnut/vanilla/Nutella drink. There's also a nice Hot & Sweet menu of non-espresso drinks. Kudo also serves up an array of Korean foods and bubble teas.
