Egg House Set To Open in LA with Pop-up Playground and Museum

2/24/19 - By Li Starr

Got a kid with an appetite for eggs? Even if you don't, chances are your kids will crave a chance to climb into The Egg House, an interactive, sensory play pop-up with a funky story that, after wowing visitors in Manhattan, is due to open in DTLA March 20, 2019. The exhibit will be open until May, and pre-sale tickets are available now.

Enjoy tasty treats from vendors serving egg-flavored bites.

The third Egg House location (after New York and Shanghai), this must-Instagram destination will take up 12,000 square feet, which is four times the size of New York's spot. Egg House, home to the fictional character Ellis the Egg, features 15 scenes showing LA's most iconic attractions, plus five snack stations serving free, egg-themed treats. A few highlights to look for include a 750 square foot pink-and-blue basketball court (a nod to the Staples Center), a beach scene inspired by the Santa Monica Pier, and a miniature room filled with tiny tableware, inviting guests to Ellis' perfect brunch.

Other details you'll need to discover on your own. Biubiu Xu, the founder of Egg House, insists on not disclosing too much about this new location yet: “We will keep some of our best scenes a secret, waiting for Ellis’ guests to discover when they arrive.”

If you're interested, get tickets sooner rather than later. The New York location had 60,000 visits in three months, with more than 1,000 visits per day on some weekends.

Chances are visitors to the DTLA Egg House will see some of the sights New Yorkers enjoyed at the Manhattan location (see the pictures here), which had a larger-than-life egg carton, a "caviar-filled" pool (aka ultra-kid pleasing ball pit with yellow and white balls), an over-easy egg-shaped swing in the dreamy garden, and a chance to watch Ellis snoozing on his bed, his adventures chronicled on video and visible through his bedroom window.

Kids will enjoy the ball pit, swing, and other interactive elements of the pop-up.

But whatever shows up in the DTLA Egg House, there will be an important difference. “Compared to the New York and Shanghai locations, which only featured indoor imaginary spaces, the LA stop will showcase outdoor attractions for the first time,” says Xu.

The Egg House invites children ages 2 and younger to enter for FREE; ages 4-9 pay $22, and admission for everyone ages 10+ is $30 and can be purchased online
