An 'Egg House' Pop-Up Installation Is Set to Hatch in NYC

If you thought festive spring fun simply revolved around egg hunts and Easter Sunday events, think again. The Egg House, a new interactive pop-up, hatches on the Lower East Side on April 7 and runs through late June.

The Egg House is the home of the fictional, ambitious Ellis the Egg, brought to life in his apartment by an artistic bunch of recent grads from some of NYC's biggest design schools: New York Univeristy, Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design, and the School of Visual Arts.

The interactive art installation is focused on an egg named Ellis.

Together, they have created not only a story line surrounding their oblong little friend, but also the "eggcellent" apartment of his dreams. Learn more about Ellis' backstory by following @theegghouse on Instagram.

Hit the "pool" for a faux egg-filled ball pit.

Upon arriving at The Egg House, visitors escape the city streets and immerse themselves in Ellis' apartment—while the host happily snoozes inside. Whimsical, interactive decorations await in the foyer, kitchen, garden (complete with egg-shaped swing), and the pool (where you can dive in for some ball-pit fun!). Six rooms spread over two stories offer plenty of sensory fun, from textures to touch to smells wafting though the air and more.

There will be egg-themed snacks and even an on-site gift shop for all things egg.

Egg lovers can nosh on snacks; some bites and sips (morning coffee and afternoon egg nog!) are free, while others, from spots like Egg Shop and Eggloo, cost extra. Foodies might appreciate Breakfast Club pop-up events. An on-site gift shop peddles egg-shaped merchandise, too.

A visit to The Egg House is expected to last 30–40 minutes.

The Egg House will be located at 195 Chrystie Street and opens on Saturday, April 7 and runs through Wednesday, June 27. Tickets are $12 for children ages 4-9; kids age 3 and under are FREE; $18 for everyone else.  Tickets are already on sale and are are being released in two week batches.
