We've gathered a big list of locations where you can take the kids to let off some steam. No planning? No problem. Most require no advance registration to attend or have open hours where you can stay and play for a while.

Legoland Discovery Center – Yonkers
Legloand Discovery Center has plenty of activities for Lego lovers of all ages. Play with Legos, check out 4-D movies, go on rides, race Lego cars against other kids, attend Lego-building workshops, and check out the Ninjago City Play Area. You don’t need to make reservations, but you can purchase tickets in advance online, which will shorten your wait to get in and is a good idea since Legoland Discovery Center is a popular destination and can get crowded during peak times.

The Play Place – Elmsford
The Play Place in Elmsford has plenty of space to play, plus tennis courts, an indoor sports field, and a climbing structure. The Play Place offers open play every day from 9am – 6pm.

Westchester Children's Museum – Rye
Along with exhibits like Build Your Own Rollercoaster and Rigamajig Big Construction, the Westchester Children’s Museum in Rye also runs various programs to check out, including Young Discoverers on Wednesday mornings, Exploring Play on Friday mornings, and Rhyme & Read on Saturday mornings, ideal for the toddler and preschool-set. Bonus: you don't need to sign up ahead of time to participate! (There are events for older kids, too.) The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (except for certain holidays), and kids under 1 are free.

For the Younger Crowd

Great Play of Scarsdale – Scarsdale
This fun spot is geared toward 1–10-year-olds, though the sweet spot is probably 3-6. Although you have to be a member of Great Play to take advantage of its open play periods, we've had great experiences with its weekly classes, which have both reasonable pricing and flexible schedules. Like playing in an oversized fun room, kids can switch stations freely in the 3,000-square-foot room, using the slide, balancing structure, tumbling section, trampoline and tunnels. Other parent-perfect perks: Incredibly clean bathroom, stocked with everything a fastidious mother would want: Clorox wipes and other disinfectant, tiny child-sized facilities, and a fully appointed baby changing station. Great Play also holds school-break camps and birthday parties.

Gymboree Play & Music – Scarsdale
Gymboree offers a variety of classes and programs for babies and kids ages 0-5. Open Gym Times are offered for a drop-in fee for non-members, while open play is free for Gymboree members. It offers open play time slots every day of the week.

Play – White Plains
Play is an indoor play space located inside the Westchester Mall. It’s free of charge and features soft play, digital activities, musical play, and play tiles, and is ideal for toddlers and preschoolers.

Games, Sports & Indoor Amusements

The Castle Fun Center – Chester
Looking for a place where you can easily spend the entire day? The Castle Fun Center offers lots to do. You'll find everything from go-karts and laser tag to mini-golf, a skating rink (you can do roller skates for some retro fun), and even amusement park–style rides. From September through April, the facility is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, but during the rest of the year, it’s open every day—though times vary—and of course, outdoor activities are dependent on weather and season.

The Cliffs at Valhalla, an indoor rock climbing facility, has open climb hours (where staff are available to assist you with climbing) every day of the week. No experience is necessary, and all needed equipment is available on-site. Wear comfortable clothes for climbing and moving. Day passes are available that include climbing shoes, harnesses, and chalk. Kids can scale walls in their sneakers or can rent climbing shoes; harness rentals are mandatory for kids participating in open climb. Pricing is the same for kids and adults. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

Dave & Buster's – Pelham Manor
Dave & Buster’s offers hundreds of video games, from classic to new. It also has food and drinks on the premises.

FunFuzion – New Rochelle
No reservations are required to visit FunFuzion, an indoor amusement park open every day of the week. The venue has hundreds of video games, rides, laser tag, miniature golf, bowling, and more. Prices vary by activity, with many in the $5 – $15 per person range. You can purchase a pre-paid card and pay for activities with the card.
