Why hot tap water is dangerous for kids
2/3/08
- By Nina
Ever try to save a little time heating water by starting with hot tap water? Apparently, you should never drink or cook with hot water from the tap. According to an article in The New York Times, "hot water dissolves contaminants more quickly than cold water, and many pipes in homes contain lead that can leach into water. And lead can damage the brain and nervous system, especially in young children."

This is especially an issue in older homes which are more likely to have lead pipes, but the article said even non-lead pipes can have some lead in them. In other words, it's best to make it a policy to never consume hot water from the tap.
Good to know. Now I just need to figure out how to get my toddler to stop drinking bath water, anyone have a crafty solution for that one?
