As the carefree days of summer draw to a close, NJ families can look forward to plenty of fun in the Garden State this fall. Explore nature at the NJ Wild Outdoor Expo, chow down on delicious seafood at the Atlantic City Seafood Festival, or listen to some exciting tales at the NJ Storytelling Festival.

Flemington Opa! Greek Festival — Flemington
Friday, September 7 – Sunday, September 9
Enjoy Greek food, Greek music, folk dancing, games, pony rides, and more at this annual event supporting the charity efforts of St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church.

Oysterfest – Asbury Park
Friday, September 7 – Sunday, September 9
No swimming? No problem. The Jersey Shore town hosts this culinary event that promises fun for the whole family (even if you don't eat oysters). The three-day festival features food, music, crafts, vendors, carnival games, and more.

Atlantic City Seafood Festival — Atlantic City
Saturday, September 8 – Sunday, September 9
Taking place between Showboat Hotel and the former Revel hotel, this annual seafood celebration hosts a variety of entertainment for the whole family. Delicious food, live music, and fun competitions are all on the menu. Visit the kids' sand sculpture area, check out the pet costume contest, listen to live music, and more.

New Jersey WILD Outdoor Expo — Jackson Township
Saturday, September 8 – Sunday, September 9
Introduce your children to outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and rock climbing at this fabulous event celebrating the state's natural resources. Attendees are encouraged to try out fishing, archery, birding, camping skills, and more. FREE

Hefty Harvest & Scary Scarecrows — Camden
Saturday, September 8 – Sunday, September 9
This event hosted by the Camden Children Garden’s includes games, crafts, and more. Kids can make their own scarecrow to take home for a small fee, while supplies last.

All About Downtown Street Fair — Jersey City
Saturday, September 15
Enjoy live music, delicious food, and handmade items from more than 125 local vendors at downtown Jersey City’s annual Street Festival. There’s plenty of fun planned for the kiddos, too. FREE

Hub City Sounds: Central Jersey Jazz Festival — New Brunswick
Saturday, September 15
Introduce children to the sounds of jazz at this annual festival. FREE

Fall Harvest Festival — Morris Township
Sunday, September 16
Bring the family to Fosterfields Living Historical Farm for an old-fashioned good time including open-air wagon rides, visits with farm animals, food trucks, live music, games, and demonstrations. Visitors can watch a blacksmith in action, help churn butter, and press apples for cider.

PlayDay South Orange — South Orange
Sunday, September 16
Located outside the South Orange train station, PlayDay South Orange is the town's largest public event and features more than 10 play areas. Check out board games, basketball, radio-controlled cars, rope jumping, and more. The bouncy houses are always a big hit, but expect to wait for your turn, as well as for face painting. FREE but there are fees for several activities. Rain date September 23.

Children's Book Festival — Princeton
Saturday, September 22
Nearly 80 children's book authors and illustrators will be at Princeton's annual festival celebrating a love of books. Kids can hear authors speak, have books signed, and join in many fun activities throughout the day. FREE

Italian Festival — Smithville
Saturday, September 29
You won't go hungry at this Historic Smithville festival, featuring mouth-watering Italian fare, plus live music, folk dancing, bocce ball, and children's activities. While you're there, explore everything Smithville has to offer, such as the carousel, train, shops, and restaurants. Rain date September 30. FREE

Harvest Home Festival — Holmdel
Sunday, September 30
Visit Historic Longstreet Farm for this old-fashioned festival featuring wagon rides, games, corn husking and pie-eating contests, live entertainment, crafts, and more. FREE

Hoboken Arts & Music Festival — Hoboken
Sunday, September 30
A local favorite, this popular festival features three stages of live music, as well as arts & craft vendors, neighborhood restaurants, and more. Stop by the designated children’s area on 3rd Street for super-fun activities such as rides, games, face painting, sand art, and musical performances including Michael from Michael and the Rockness Monster. FREE
