Weekend Fun for NYC Kids: SummerStage Family Day, RiverFest, Big Apple BBQ June 13-14

Get ready for a busy weekend—five of our top picks for the month are taking place! Enjoy a delicious BBQ bash in Madison Square Park, cruise down the Hudson at RiverFest, compete in a Bubble Battle in Union Square Park, immerse yourself in Native American culture at Inwood Hill Park's Drums Along the Hudson or catch the first SummerStage Family Day of the season in Brooklyn. Plus, the Children's Museum of the Arts hosts a mini Mermaid Parade for tots and the Queens Museum throws a FREE family fest.

Big Apple BBQ Block Party – Flatiron

Jazz Age Lawn Party – Governors Island
Don your finest retro garb and celebrate 1920s-style at this open-air dance party. Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra play period tunes, while decked-out showgirls and vaudeville comedians entertain. There's even a kiddie area featuring carnival games and other old-fashioned amusements.

Learn about African-American traditions and culture through Charlotte Blake Alston's powerful stories, part of Lincoln Center Kids' brand-new series of family performances.

Weeksville Weekends "Home" – Crown Heights
Head to the Weeksville Heritage Center for a community fest featuring art workshops, kid-friendly tours of the historic Hunterfly Road Houses and fruit-pop making. FREE

Mini Mermaid Parade – Hudson Square
If Coney Island's iconic but very crowded parade next Saturday seems too overwhelming or risqué for your family, the Children's Museum of the Arts has an alternative for you. At this G-rated mini Mermaid Parade, kids can make aquatic-themed costumes, create pint-size parade floats, collaborate on an under-the-sea mural and march around the museum.

PLAYground Festival – Williamsburg
PS 414 throws this annual carnival to support its music programs. Enjoy live performances, crafts, storytime and face painting. Free admission, but there are fees for activities

Riverdale RiverFest – Riverdale
More June GoList fun: Celebrate the mighty Hudson River at this waterfront festival featuring live music, environmental activities and a reenactment of a Medieval battle. There will also be traditional carnival fun for kids like bouncy castles and pony rides. Free admission for fest; boat rides require advance tickets for a fee

Drums Along the Hudson – Inwood
And another June GoList pick: Watch incredible dance and drumming performances by Louis Mofsie and the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers, plus try Native American crafts and foods at this 13th annual fest. FREE

SummerStage Family Day: Martha Redbone Roots Project and Ebony Hillbillies – Brownsville
Our final June GoList pick of the weekend: SummerStage kicks off its series of Family Days in Betsy Head Park with music by neo-soul singer/songwriter Martha Redbone and NYC's own Ebony Hillbillies, followed by a live deejay and a screening of the recent Annie reboot. FREE

Father Goose at Hip Tot Family Day @ Lakeside – Prospect Park
Catch frequent Dan Zanes collaborator Rankin' Don, better known as Father Goose to kids, at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside. The so-called King of the Dance Party performs G-rated dance hall-inspired tunes full of Caribbean rhythms and flair. Concert is free, but roller-skating costs extra

Catch the Cool – Corona
Enjoy an afternoon of free family fun at the Queens Museum. Activities include a music performance by ¡Acopladitos!, bilingual storytime, collaborative art making and a Panorama scavenger hunt. FREE
