Your Kid Can Play Halo IRL at This Interactive Xbox Experience

Whether or not your teen or tween is a video game geek, you've probably heard of Halo, the Xbox series from Microsoft that has dominated the gaming space since it was released in 2001. It has spawned a TV series, comic books, novels, and now a live tour.
The "Halo: Outpost Discovery" tour promises to bring the popular sci-fi game to life with a special fan experience "for the whole family" as it visits five major U.S. cities—Orlando, Philadelphia, Chicago, Houston, and Anaheim, California—this summer.
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
Expect plenty of gaming stations but also more active experiences.
Halo's tour might just be the can't-miss, pleeeeease-let-me-go outing of the summer for certain teens. The weekendlong event lets visitors step into Halo’s world with themed attractions spread across 300,000-square-feet. Look for laser tag, VR, and of course, the latest playable game releases.
More activities? Why yes, there are! Explore the Ring Experience (alas, no further details on what that is), get up close to a real Warthog, battle fellow recruits in a laser tag arena, and experience in-universe encounters via the aforementioned VR technology. Fans might also take advantage of hundreds of game stations to play, compete, and explore the Halo game series.
For those more interested in how Halo gets made, there are some edifying events (yes, this can actually be educational, especially for kids hoping to design the next big game someday). Attend one of many themed panels, meet the creators and special guests, learn how the Halo universe is made, or take part in one of the many available community events to learn how to live stream gameplay or build an epic cosplay costume (and in plenty of time for Halloween).
If you're looking to make a bored tween or tween smile (gasp!) this summer, this weekend adventure might be a great option for your calendar. Here are all the upcoming dates and cities:
- July 5-7 – Orlando
- July 19-21 – Philadelphia
- August 2-4 – Chicago
- August 16-18 – Houston
- August 30-September 1 – Anaheim

Military forces and high-end weaponry might not appeal to all families.
Whether or not you want to bring the whole family, however, is up to you. Halo is a first-person shooter game, and most of the games in the series carry a Teen or higher rating. Common Sense Media gives it a 16+ rating, while some of the parent reviews put it closer to tween level at age 11 and up. It's, of course, perfectly fine too, if your family does not allow or want to engage in any type of shooting games or video games, period.
Though some of the details on the tour are sparse right now, tickets are already for sale at Halo Outpost Discovery. Prices start at $55.
