North Fork Summer Festivals For Families

Summer on the North Fork means the return of annual carnivals and festivals. Whether you prefer snacking on garlic inspired food at the Garlic Festival or viewing the green surroundings from high atop a Ferris wheel, there are plenty of special events to check out from Riverhead to the Orient this summer. Read on for a list of our recommendations for festivals this summer.

Greenport Fourth Of July Carnival - Greenport

Carnival rides, music, games, and snacks make this a classic family outing complete with funnel cake and candy apples. There are plenty of exciting rides for both young and old riders, but it is not an all day affair, so plan to check out the waterfront and do some shopping in Greenport before the carnival. Enjoy fireworks on the Fourth. General admission is free; ride tickets or bracelets are available for purchase.

Jamestown fits a surprising number of rides and games in a small grassy area, about six or so kiddie rides, and another six rides for more daring visitors. There are hot dogs, hamburgers, and fried oreos for purchase. If you having picky kids or are looking to sit down and enjoy a meal, it is a short walk to Grana’s where you can get a delicious wood oven pizza. There is a parade with all the local fire departments on Wednesday evening. General admission is free; ride tickets or bracelets are available for purchase.

36th Annual Mattituck Street Fair - Mattituck

Love Lane is the quaint Main Street in the town of Mattituck. The street is worth visiting just for a stop at the Village Cheese Shop, The Sweets Shop, and Love Lane Kitchen, so the street fair is just a bonus. With local vendors selling crafts, jewelry, and food, along with music, this fair is enjoyable for the whole family. General admission is free.

33rd Annual Hallockville Fall Festival & Craft Show - Riverhead

Local vendors, food, music, animals, and children’s games make this North Fork tradition a perfect outing for the whole family. All proceeds support this Historic Museum Farm. This year’s admission prices aren’t available yet, but last year at the door it was $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and children under age 12, or a family pass for $18, valid for four people with a maximum of two adults. Discounted tickets were available online in advance.

10th Annual Long Island Garlic Festival - Riverhead

Visit the Garden of Eve Organic Farm & Market for garlic inspired foods, crafts, hayrides, music, and fun. You don’t want to miss the Garlic Iron Chef competition or the Garlic Eating Contest. Admission is $3 per person, children under age 6 are free.

24th Annual Greenport Maritime Festival - Greenport
September 20-22, 2013

This celebration of Tall Ships includes nautical themed arts and crafts, music, pirate shows, local foods including a Chowder Contest, boat trips, activities for children, as well as local wines and craft beers for the adults.
